ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Wind River has important product initiatives in cloud and telecommunications infrastructure offerings. This position will lead, drive and contribute significantly to the company’s success in the telecommunications space, particularly in virtualization technology, edge compute and 5G solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive background in telecommunications technology and business, as well as cloud (NFV/SDN) technologies. This role is a senior strategic leader role, participating in a team that sets the forward-looking vision for the company’s product strategy. Senior experience in a leading technology strategy role (CSO or CTO team leader) is preferred.

In this role, you will research, define and translate to execution forward looking strategy for cross-portfolio customer centric solutions for the telecommunications market. This includes technology and market strategic analysis, cross functional leadership, external facing skills and cooperative strategy creation with other business units. Excellent customer facing skills are required, as is participation in externally facing forums. 

Interface and Collaboration

Reporting to the Vice President, Product Strategy within the Chief Product Officer’s organization, you will manage a small team as well as individually contribute to strategic direction setting using your software, cloud and telecom industry specific knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Research and document and be the SME for telecommunications market trends, the market landscape, opportunities and threat identification.
  • Discover technology trends and set strategic goals in place to take advantage of, as well as intercept these trends in time to lead the market.
  • Spend time with lighthouse customers both to share the corporate vision as well as engage them to incorporate feedback into the strategy.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the customers concerns and problems, and set direction to address this with compelling solutions
  • Translate strategy into execution by providing internal cross functional leadership to ensure implementation of the strategy
  • Lead external facing initiatives such as key industry events, open community activities, and marketing support for blogs/webinars (etc) as required.
  • Provide technology leadership to other cross functional teams to drive PoC activities, requirements documents, partner activities, roadmap oversight, and closed loop strategy accountability

 

ABOUT YOU

Core Competencies, Demonstrated Success & Qualifications

  • 15+ year of experience in advanced development, software development leadership, technology team leadership (CTO, CSO) culminating in a strategic role within telecommunications vendors with a history of direct product delivery to communications service providers
  • Ability to manage teams and work cross functionally within the internal organization with demonstrated competence in managing projects to success across the organization.
  • Experience with operational aspects of interacting with communications service providers, such as carrier grade support delivery, architectural / planning team interaction, requirements definition, operations team interaction, etc.
  • Experience with telecommunications market centric cloud technology (NFV, SDN), including OpenStack, Kubernetes, and associated open source projects and components.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure as well as peripheral functions such as NFVO (Orchestration), VNFM (VNF Management), zero touch deployment, automation, REST API integration, etc.
  • Experience with Big Data Analytics technology and solution component tradeoffs, design, and technology selection is a plus.
  • Excellent analytics skills, employed to rapidly develop deep understating of multiple technology components, and integration of same into forward looking strategic vision
  • Strong public speaking skills demonstrating deep technical expertise with comfortable, confident delivery of advanced, complex technology solutions
  • Good skills in documenting vision and creating compelling material to drive consensus internally on the vision and strategy
