Position Overview:
This position will conduct research, analysis, synthesis, and/or experimentation on substances, including product and process development, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and improvement of analytical methodologies
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop formulas and analytical procedures and methods to solve technical problems and development issues
- Analyze organic and inorganic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties by utilizing methods to include chromatography, spectroscopy, spectrophotometry, light microscopy, SEM and EDS
- Prepare technical reports after conducting appropriate analyses and collecting pertinent data
- Conduct research on manufactured products to develop and improve products
- Maintain laboratory equipment to include performing basic maintenance procedures, calling for on-site repairs as needed, and purchasing service contracts
- Recommend and evaluate new and replacement laboratory equipment
- Purchase and maintain an adequate inventory of laboratory supplies
- Confer with other scientists and engineers regarding research projects and investigate new technologies needed to support those endeavors
- Knowledge of safety standards applicable to the work area and other pertinent rules/regulations governing work activities.
- Knowledge of science and engineering principles.
- Knowledge of computers sufficient to utilize word processors, spreadsheets and data bases.
- Skill in operation of scientific instruments.
- Ability to analyze problems and develop solutions
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 4+ years experience in a laboratory.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
- Strong leadership qualities including interpersonal, communication, organizational, and analytical skill
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting in the same location of standing/walking; required to stoop, climb, or lift light material (10-20lbs) or equipment.
ENVIRONMENT:
Located in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature extremes, loud noises, and bright lights. Examples: mail clerks, material handlers and food service workers
