Journeyman Mechanic - Fleet
The Primary Responsibility of the Service Technician is to perform quality repairs on Company Equipment and make recommendations to Foreman of additional deficiencies found during inspection.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance activities according to the vehicle condition report.
- Change the oil and oil filter.
- Perform emergency repair 24-hours a day as qualified.
- Overhaul diesel engines assist with ability to learn.
- Perform major repairs on electrical systems, air condition systems, air systems, driveline fuel
- system, etc; assist Master Technician with the ability to learn.
- Receives repair work orders from Foreman.
- Performs work directed in repair work orders in a timely and thorough manner.
- Advises Foreman of any additional repairs required.
- Attend training sessions to obtain and maintain needed certifications required by FMCSA.
- Performs additional tasks, and repairs as required. Have manual dexterity.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of safety standards applicable to the work area and other pertinent rules/regulations governing work activities.
- Knowledge of all equipment utilized in a diesel engine repair shop.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical diesel operations.
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Ability to read and understand vehicle manuals.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
- Ability to operate power tools, hand tools and other equipment safely
EDUCATION: High School Graduate or GED
EXPERIENCE: 2+ years
Two years of verifiable diesel engine and tractor-trailer repair experience at the apprentice level or a graduate of an accredited Diesel Equipment Technology program.
Ability to obtain air brake certification within 30 days. Willing to achieve Master Mechanic status. Obtain and/ or maintain Class A CDL, Hazardous Material Endorsement and a health card.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking/pushing/climbing and lifting
material or equipment of heavy weight (>50 lbs) Examples: grounds staff and EMS
