Job Purpose and Function

The Sr. Fuel Revenue Accountant will provide integral support to the Accounting Department as a key member of the Operational Accounting Team. This role will be responsible for ensuring the quality and timeliness of data that supports Financial Statement preparation and Balance Sheet integrity. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, utilizing accounting best practices, leading by example, and ensuring the accuracy of financial data.

 

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Ensure the accurate recording and reconciliation of fuel sales revenue by site, grade, and tender type.
  • Validate sales data from POS and relevant back-office systems, and resolve any posting errors, pricing discrepancies or data exceptions. Partner with store operations to follow up on missing or incorrect transaction details.
  • Maintain accurate fuel revenue general ledger accounts including reconciliation of related clearing accounts.
  • Reconcile daily credit card sales transactions from retail POS systems to merchant processor reports and bank deposits. Timely report issues to third party processors to ensure no financial loss.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies such as chargebacks, declined transactions, duplicate charges, or timing differences in partnership with internal business partners.
  • Monitor settlement timelines to ensure deposits are received in accordance with merchant agreements.
  • Ensure the accurate accounting and reporting of fuel discounts, loyalty offers and related programs to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and reporting best practices.
  • Oversee the fuel sales billing process for wholesale customers, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Perform and oversee collections activities and account reconciliations, resolving discrepancies efficiently to maintain financial accuracy.
  • Prepare and maintain reconciliation schedules to support accounting records and financial reporting.
  • Support month-end close and external audits for fuel revenue and settlement.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over fuel revenue processes.
  • Identify trends or recurring issues and recommend process improvements in partnership with internal and external business partners

 

What We’re Looking For

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; equivalent relevant progressive experience will also be considered in the absence of an undergraduate degree. 
  • 4+ years of progressive broad-based accounting experience in a corporate environment
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office applications and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analysis and research capabilities.
  • Team-oriented with a self-directed work style
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Experience with large scale ERP System(s)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to a values-driven, culturally diverse work environment.

An ideal candidate will also have

  • Broad-based accounting experience in retail or related industry
  • PDI experience
  • Experience working with payment card processors and reconciling credit card transactions
  • Experience implementing improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of key processes.

Availability and Travel

 

·          This hybrid role complies with our company’s hybrid telework schedule. Our operating days and hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with in-office days being Tuesday through Thursday, reserving Monday and Friday as work-from-home.

·          Occasionally, business needs may require periodic work obligations outside of core business hours.

·          This role may require occasional travel, including overnight stays for training, conferences, or other events with reimbursement available for approved accommodations and/or expenses.
