Senior Permitting Professional

Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON) is actively seeking an experienced environmental scientist/permitting professional to provide technical support and expertise to project managers serving our linear permitting client base, focusing on environmental and engineering services for power and utility and/or pipeline clients.  The Permitting Professional provides our clients with accurate and pertinent technical and scientific data and analysis according to agreed-upon methods, procedures, and techniques.  Provides sound conclusions and recommendations based upon field investigations and literature reviews within the established project schedules. This position will be part of a nationwide WESTON team that serves energy projects for private industry clients throughout North America.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership as a front-line client-focused leader who works with stakeholders to understand project needs and deliver services
  • Manage client-focused teams including mentoring of junior staff
  • Communicate scientific and technical information to clients and/or internal audiences through oral briefings, written documents, and formal meetings
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to align activities and project schedules
  • Prepares natural resource permitting and compliance documents.
  • Maintains current knowledge of State and Federal regulations.
  • Obtains all data as prescribed by the scope of work and present it in a logical, coherent manner.  Prepares written reports, tables, figures and illustrations.
  • Conducts literature searches to compile pertinent information and evaluates and correlates the compiled literature.
  • As assigned, assists, reviews and/or evaluates on-going projects in the specialty
  • Maintains a current knowledge of recent advancements in the field for application on existing and proposed projects
  • Thoroughly understands and conducts scientific literature searches.  Assesses data as it relates to project identification.
  • Prepares meaningful, precise, easily read, scientific reports of field and laboratory results appropriate to the defined areas of investigation.
  • Support the development of proposals including the technical approach, budgets, and schedules
  • Cultivate new and grow existing relationships with clients; as well as pursue new business opportunities as a part of WESTON’s Siting, Licensing and Permitting team with Client Service Managers and Project Managers

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • B.S. or B.A. in Environmental Sciences or similar degree with 5 to 15 years of experience
  • Prior environmental services experience with power and utility companies (primarily in Mid-Atlantic and Northeast states)
  • Must have experience and working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, and guidance including Siting Boards, BLM, USFS, USFWS, USACE, as well as experience with federal, state and local regulators
  • Ability to work accurately, while handling multiple priorities and requirements
  • Ability to direct team members to the successful completion of projects or tasks
  • Excellent proof-reading and writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management, staff, and clients, as well as outside business associates
  • Must possess solid, practical skills in Microsoft Office applications [spreadsheet (Excel), word processing (Word), scheduling (Project)]
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond effectively and sensitively to questions from client, managers, and staff
