Senior Hydrogeologist

Description

WESTON is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist that will be responsible for helping to evaluate and visualize proposed remedies for sites of varying scale that are sufficiently complex to warrant the use of digital site conceptual models and numerical modeling. A variety of modeling packages may be used and reports summarizing the modeling efforts will typically be required.  

Location: West Chester, PA

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Geology/Hydrogeology
  • 10+ years’ experience developing 3D conceptual site models and performing numerical simulations of groundwater flow and contaminant transport.  Experience should include:
    • Groundwater flow model construction and calibration using finite difference or finite element packages
    • Contaminant transport simulation using MT3DMS or other industry standard tools
    • Experience using MODFLOW/MT3D preprocessors (Groundwater Vistas preferred)
    • Work with existing models developed or inherited by Weston and construct and calibrate a model from scratch
  • Experience with one or more of the following is a plus:
    • MODFLOW-USG (a new unstructured grid implementation of MODFLOW)
    • PEST inverse modeling for calibration (parallelized versions preferred)
    • More simplistic analytical modeling tools and techniques
    • Geospatial analysis with GIS (ESRI products preferred)
    • Database construction and management
    • 3D conceptual site model development using Ctech’s EVS/MKS or Earth Volumetric Studio
    • 3D conceptual site modeling with EarthVision (by Dynamic Graphics, Inc)
    • Familiarity with the R statistical library
    • Scripting languages (python, UNIX, powershell, fortran, VBA, java, or C++ preferred)
    • Geostatistics
    • Vadose hydrology

Responsibilities:

  • Synthesizing, evaluating, and processing large volumes of geologic, hydraulic, and analytical data for model input as well as post-processing, tabulating, and visualizing model output. 
  • Train/mentor junior staff on one or modeling techniques. 
  • Non-modeling office tasks may include preparation and review of work/sampling plans, remedial investigation reports, preliminary site assessments, site inspection reports, and other technical memoranda. 
  • Field responsibilities such as site assessments, drilling oversight, field sampling of multiple media, aquifer testing, and other methods of data collection may be required on occasion.
