Description

WESTON is seeking a well-connected Project Scientist/Geologist to carry out project duties to meet Weston’s oil and gas client’s needs. Specific activities are anticipated to include preparing permit applications and compliance reports, collecting field monitoring data, interpreting and analysis of environmental data, preparing final reports which include technical sound conclusions and recommendations). 

Location: Anchorage, AK

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • BS or BA in natural sciences plus 7 years’ experience.
  • Well connected with good relationships with regulators and oil and gas industry in AK.
  • Good reputation within oil and gas industry in AK.
  • Knowledge of regulatory environment in AK; state, local, and federal
  • Proven ability to prepare permit applications for approval by the regulatory agencies.
  • Hands on field experience with field sampling and compliance.
  • Data analysis resulting in technically sound conclusions
  • Well-read in most sciences plus all environmental areas
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out independent original scientific work. 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares permit applications for Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborates with client’s to understand project plans to ensure appropriate permit applications are submitted and permits are approved in a timely manner.
  • Collects samples to evaluate compliance with approved permits and prepares compliance reports.
  • Maintains up-to-date sampling, monitoring and testing techniques ensuring the credibility of data collected.
  • Is familiar with potential hazards (safety and health) associated with project activities in Alaska and advises Project Manager of procedures to mitigate.
  • Acting as a working leader, coordinates all sampling and analytical activities in an efficient manner to ensure that the project requirements and deadlines are met.
  • Site responsibilities range from being totally responsible for the execution of a field project directing the efforts of 5 to 10 people to being a contributing member of the field team.   May serve as leader of a field data collection team.  Controls all field operations, data collection techniques, analyses, timetables, field budgets.
  • Prepares and recommends scientifically valid and appropriate quality assurance program for data collection activities.
  • Coordinates scientific findings with other scientific disciplines and organizations.  
  • Provides technical assistance to ensure that reports are technically valid and results, conclusions, and recommendations are supported and justified.
