Summary 

The main responsibilities of the Lead Engineer are to support our Sales & Service teams through review & validation of proposals, test-plans, and test-reports, providing technical training & mentoring to our team, and developing new capabilities & offerings that support profitable growth. 

Essential Functions 

  • Review and approve/certify proposals, test-plans, & test-reports by our Sales & Service teams for various customer jobs for correctness, quality, and adherence to standards.
  • Perform coordination studies & arc-flash studies based on data gathered from customer sites and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Sales team, Service team, and Customers to develop execution plans on larger and more complex projects for safe, successful (high quality), & efficient completion.
  • Build relationships with Customers by providing insightful technical solutions and solving complex testing & reliability challenges related to electrical installations and protection equipment.
  • Stay abreast of related technology, industry standards, customer needs, and best-practices to develop new solutions & service-offerings. Coordinate with Service Operations Manager to enhance Quality processes and metrics to ensure our Services exceed customer expectations.
  • Develop and manage the training and up-skilling of our technicians in collaboration with the Power Systems training coordinator with targeted & measurable results.
  • Support business-development & customer-facing efforts in support of sales-team with required technical materials & presentations.
  • Develop solutions to make step changes in process efficiencies in the engineering/technical aspects of quoting, job progress calculation in collaboration with the Sales Manager and Service Operations Manager.
  • Systematize and grow engagement with key industry organizations (NETA, PEARL, and others) to stay in accreditation compliance, build relationships, and position PP&S for thought leadership in the industry.

Supervisory Responsibilities 

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. 

Reporting & Relationships 

  • This role will report to the Director of PPS or others assigned that interim role
  • The person in the role will work closely with the Sales Manager, Service Operations Manager, Procurement, and W/O/Invoicing teams in addition to regular interactions with the Power Systems leadership team.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience 

  • Four-year degree in Engineering or similar; Masters or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in Electrical Testing industry dealing with LV, MV, and HV equipment required; NETA level-3 or level-4 certification preferred.
  • Valid PE (Professional Engineer) Certification will be a plus.
  • Power coordination study & arc-flash study expertise will be a plus.

Computer Skills 

  • Understands and utilizes current technology, strong computing skills
  • Skilled in SAP
  • Expert level capability with Microsoft Office applications – Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Access or equivalent. Experimenter and early adopter of technology & tools.

Language Skills 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 

Mathematical Skills 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 

Reasoning Ability 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
