Summary
The VP of Sales is an executive commercial leader to guide all aspects of the Sales functions. Reporting to the President, the VP of Sales will drive the ongoing refinement of a commercial vision, ensure that market requirements dictate partnership relationships and product development efforts, as well as lead, develop, and grow a diverse team of sales and business development professionals.
Interfaces with Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, Marketing, Training, Business Technology and Human Resources on issues relative to sales execution.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate with President and Executive Team to define sales & revenue objectives, solution strategy, go-to-market roadmap, unique selling propositions, presence in the market, and establishing internal company culture and process.
- Lead the development of immediate and future (3-5yr) business plans for sales & marketing strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business strategy and targets.
- Quantify business outcomes (i.e., revenues, other KPIs)
- Budgets (financial and capacity)
- Ensure integration of key activities or initiatives across the organization
- Responsible for aggressively growing the business, leading and producing a strategy to manage day-to-day sales and marketing activity and customer-focused sales and marketing efforts.
- Drive conversion of the sales team's opportunities into realized revenue to accelerate growth goals.
- Leverage and maintain strong relationships with existing customers.
- Identify immediate and future prospects with emphasis on maintaining an evolving customer base and sales pipeline.
- Track market trends using data-based approaches to position company for new opportunities.
- Evaluate current capabilities, identify gaps, and prioritize development activities.
- Identify the competencies needed to meet the current and emerging business needs of all business verticals.
- Oversee the customer qualification process to build a robust and value-driven sales pipeline.
- Work with the Marketing department to develop core positioning, differentiation, targeting, and messaging strategies for existing and new solutions.
- Develop marketing strategies for traditional and digital media.
- Establish marketing content calendars to align with activities and company backlog.
- Leverage industrial logistics automation market knowledge, translate data into actionable insights, and commercialize solutions and products.
- Build and lead the sales team to become best-in-class professionals that deliver company targets with a focus on generating and maintaining profitability.
- Motivate others to develop their capabilities and fulfill their personal goals and developments milestones.
- Build sales and marketing capabilities and understanding throughout the organization through training programs/intra-company communications.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
- 10-15 years of experience in sales in the material handling, capital equipment, engineering, robotics, or construction market sectors.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, engineering or equivalent.
- Demonstrable success in Business-to-Business, sales, and marketing.
- Comfortable at working successfully with executive level customers.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal & written.
- Highly proficient at articulating complex problems and solutions.
- Ability to multi-task, work cross functionally and work independently.
- Demonstrable record of success in Business Development with a focus on solution sales.
- Driven & comfortable with a high level of autonomy.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and critical thinking skills.
- Adept at prioritization.
- Proficiency in MS Office and CRM (Salesforce experience a plus).
- Comfortable working in ambiguous situations.
- Ability to travel as required
Desired Experience
- Supply chain or material handling industry experience, with specific focus on customer service.
- Experience in the consulting or professional services industry.
- Proven track record of successfully managing sales and marketing teams.
- History of successfully developing and hitting quantifiable, sales and marketing goals
- Demonstrated ability to attract, hire, develop, and grow a sales and marketing organization.
