Summary: Carolina Cat Power Systems (Power Systems) is a $90MM (2023 est.), fast growing, business unit of CTE, that delivers products, solutions/systems, and services for customers’ electric power requirements. These include generators, transfer switches, and other power generation & control systems. 

The Project Portfolio Manager (PPM) will have the key responsibility of leading our team (currently 3) of Project Managers to deliver exceptional financial & customer-satisfaction performance for our dynamic portfolio of customer projects involving power generation, power systems, and large service projects. The PPM will also directly & actively manage some projects himself/herself. She/He will conceptualize improvements & champion implementation of tools & processes to transform our Project Management performance & monitoring. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Lead & Manage team of Project Managers:
    • Support, manage, and lead Project Managers to ensure their professional growth and wellbeing. Develop cadences for weekly & monthly 1-on-1’s to troubleshoot, support, and motivate performance towards business goals while generating opportunities for personal growth.
    • Develop and instill a culture of Performance Excellence in project management.
  • Monitor, Report-out, and Drive project portfolio for performance:
    • Develop cadences for weekly & monthly review of portfolio with Project Managers to identify and act on opportunities & risks. Provide escalation & report-outs for management on portfolio performance & deviations.
    • Implement processes to exceed expectations for Gross-Margin improvement and customer satisfaction from order-intake to project close-outs.
  • Transform Project Management for competitive differentiation & value-creation:
    • Understand/Levers the key levers & critical aspects for performance excellence related to the nature of our projects & stakeholders.
    • Review current processes and tools & identify short-term and medium-term step changes to transform Project Management function to best-in-class.
    • Work closely with Director -Operations, Continuous Improvement (CI), and others to implement transformation with urgency while ensuring continuity on existing projects.
  • Coordinate with other functions & stakeholders for successful projects:
    • Work closely & build relationships with Sales, Service, Procurement, & Finance internally, and Key Customers and vendors to resolve issues and materialize opportunities for success.
  • Project Management: Manage some key projects directly:

Supervisory Responsibilities 

This job has supervisory responsibilities for Project Managers. 

Work Relationship and Scope: Reports directly to the Director -Operations (Power Systems). Project Managers will report directly to this role. Works closely with Sales, Procurement, Service, Finance, Power Systems management, other functional leaders, customers, and vendors/suppliers 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree - Business, Engineering, Accounting, or similar -
  • PMP, PgMP, CAPM, and/or comparable project management certifications highly desirable.
  • Five years or more of Project Management, Project Procurement, Project Financial Controls, or similar experience -
  • Hands-on general-contractor projects or Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) Project Management experience will be a plus.

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Exceptional Project Management skills in a technical solutions/systems environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn key technical aspects of projects including regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills including interpersonal and customer communications.
  • Time management with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with Percent Of Completion (POC) Accounting will be a plus.

Computer Skills 

  • Microsoft Office Suite – high level user of MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Proficient with & hands-on experience in any of Project Management software (MS Project, Project Server, Procore, etc.).

While performing the duties of this Job, depending on site location, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment.
