Medscape, a division of WebMD, develops and hosts clinical portals and related mobile applications that
make it easier for healthcare professionals to access clinical reference sources, stay abreast of the latest
clinical information, learn about new treatment options, earn continuing medical education credits, and
communicate with peers.
The role
We are looking for someone with previous experience of delivering high quality medical communications
projects and excellent proofreading and editing skills to join our Global Content Development team.
The Senior Medical Editor will report to the Head of Content Development and will be the in-house
editorial lead on a variety of educational and promotional projects funded by pharmaceutical company
clients. They will also mentor junior colleagues and provide support to the Head of Content Development,
as required.
The Global Content Development team works on global projects funded through arm’s-length
arrangements and also on projects directly commissioned by clients for a UK audience. The Senior Medical
Editor will have the opportunity to work on a range of multimedia project types, including videos,
animations, digital and printed supplements and articles, and working party meetings of healthcare experts
to agree new best practice clinical guidance.
Key responsibilities will include:
ensuring the quality and accuracy of all materials produced through your excellent writing,
copyediting, and proofreading skills
mentoring less experienced members of the team, supporting them to manage more complex
projects and programmes
commissioning and liaising effectively with key opinion leaders in the healthcare industry to
produce high quality content
reviewing work of other editors and providing constructive feedback on their work
ensuring compliance with the ABPI Code of Practice
working with freelance medical writers and facilitators
communicating with pharmaceutical company clients, working closely with the sales team, account
managers, and project managers
developing and maintaining an understanding of various client brands and disease areas
suggesting improvements to internal processes to increase team efficiency and/or product quality
working with WebMD teams to develop new project types, defining the relevant processes,
procedures and supporting documentation.
Essential skills and experience
Previous experience of medical editing, medical communications, medical education, or publishing
Life science degree (or higher), with an understanding of disease area terminology
Excellent development editing, copy editing and proofreading skills
Excellent attention to detail
Excellent time management, project management, and organisational skills
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Previous experience of interacting directly with healthcare professionals
Previous experience of interacting directly with clients
Other useful experience
Previous experience of working with global experts in secondary care
Understanding of secondary care topics, such as oncology
Knowledge of Adobe InDesign
Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and the ABPI Code of Practice
Experience of using online approval systems (e.g. Veeva Vault PromoMats)
Location
The role may be based in either Chesham, Buckinghamshire or Central London. The team is currently
working in a hybrid manner with working from home the norm on a day-to-day basis.
