General Description


The Senior Associate Editor is responsible for writing and editing feature articles and monthly departments for this monthly ophthalmology publication. Some of the articles will be written by him/her and others will be submitted by authors that require editing. The Senior Associate Editor also proofreads manuscripts written by other staff members.


Job Responsibilities


  • Write and/or edit feature article(s) and monthly department(s) for each issue
  • Proofread other staff’s features and departments for accuracy, clarity
  • Lay out his/her monthly departments using Adobe InDesign
  • Conduct interviews with article sources or authors
  • Incorporate author/reviewer revisions into articles and departments
  • Ensure projects are prepared appropriately, if needed, for review
  • Oversee accuracy of projects through all stages of content development
  • Interface with physicians, account services, art and production regarding content and design
  • Other duties as assigned




  • 3-5 years as a writer in medical publishing, pharmaceuticals, Science or the health-care industry (specific experience in ophthalmology writing a plus)
  • Excellent, proven command of written language is essential
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Word required and Adobe InDesign a plus
  • Ability to multitask in fast-paced environment to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to have one’s work constructively criticized and edited
  • A curiosity about and interest in medicine, surgery and medical technology is helpful
  • Strong organizational and project management skills




  • Travel to industry conferences as required
