Summary

The Senior Designer designs and produces creative materials consistent with marketing, educational, and Company objectives. They design and produce layouts and web-ready digital files for print, multimedia, and interactive products and solutions, typically for a specified account base leading to high levels of client satisfaction and achievement of department objectives. The Senior Designer provides guidance and art critique to other creative services personnel as needed, taking a leadership role in conversations with a solutions-oriented approach that supports management decisions and builds skills and morale within the department. Must also work successfully with input/critique from Art Directors and Creative Director.

Produce high-quality print layouts for newsletters, magazines, calendars, booklets, etc., and web-ready digital files for websites, social media, and email, in a high-volume, schedule-driven setting for assigned clients.

 

Lead and participate in design critiques; be accountable for follow-through on decisions.

 

Work closely with employees such as Editors, Account Managers, Production Coordinators, and Sales Representatives to produce work according to specific style standards, specs, schedules, and error-free direct-to-print conversion.

 

Develop and maintain exceptional relationships with client contacts. Ensure clients are very satisfied with Krames design expertise and services.

Consult with clients regarding brand guidelines, diversity of photography, and the overall tone of the design to reflect the client’s needs.

 

Assess all graphics/photos, etc., for quality and optimal reproduction, communicating assessments to the team or client.

 

Make revisions to layouts at all stages of production, and generate printed and/or PDF proofs as required.

Ensure graphic cohesiveness; branding, style, and color consistency; and other quality control factors on all projects.

 

For print projects, prepare electronic files, including but not limited to correction and touch-up of 4/c and B&W photos, assigning color breaks, base aligning text, etc. for error-free direct-to-plate conversion. Produce pre-press-ready electronic page files in InDesign or similar software.

Review and approve digital proofs and press sheets according to established guidelines and schedules to ensure quality reproduction of graphic elements during the printing process, contacting prepress professionals to discuss issues as necessary.

 

Under limited supervision, art direct and arrange for photography of magazine subjects, meetings, shots, etc.

 

Conceptualize and design print and interactive infographics.

Create slide templates and graphic solutions for presentations as needed; format slide decks with precision and consistency.

 

Design and produce program or product collateral materials, including but not limited to workbooks, folders, name badges, and posters.

 

Support departmental management to develop creative concepts and designs for marketing campaigns and other programs.

Contribute to overall project status meetings. Maintain appropriate documentation tracking project development and changing specifications.

 

Communicate with team members and vendors to ensure the excellence and integrity of the product and to ensure materials are produced according to project specifications, on time and within budget.

Use the time reporting system appropriately and as directed each week.

 

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, preferably with an art or art related degree; or five (5) or more years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

 

Five (5) years or more graphic artist/design experience is required

Knowledge of principles of design, computerized design, commercial graphics production, printing techniques, and web-ready digital files is required.

Expertise in color proofing and printing processes in all electronic publishing workflow is preferred.

 

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must able to work across Mac and PC platforms, with a working knowledge of various design-related software programs including but not limited to InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word applications. Knowledge of HTML, XML, Flash, Java Script, Dreamweaver, and WordPress is a plus. The incumbent must also be able to use any other software or system necessary for fulfilling the requirements of this position as they may change from time to time.
