We are seeking an experienced health journalist and content strategist who can plan, assign, edit, and produce authoritative health content in an understandable and engaging voice. The Magazine Editor will edit and transform writing submitted by professional contributors as well as the personal stories of our readers into clear and compelling content. Writing assignments may vary from short research write-ups to longer form feature articles or eBooks. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, overseeing, and editing the writing of varied contributors to our quarterly print publication.

Full responsibilities include:

  • Assign roughly 30 stories per issue — covering topics of importance to caregivers and adults that span comorbid conditions, treatment, learning, parenting, living with ADHD, and more
  • Craft reader polls and solicit questions from audience members for experts to answer; coordinate with social media and newsletter teams on user-generated content
  • Collaborate with the art director on magazine design treatments, particularly for long-form features and covers
  • Identify opportunities for special content packages based on seasonality and/or advertiser demand
  • Edit, rewrite, and request revisions for magazine contributions
  • Occasional feature and department writing for print magazine
  • Input changes into manuscripts and InDesign layouts — coordinating input from writers, the managing editor, and the copy editor
  • Cut and adjust copy to fit InDesign layouts
  • Communicate regularly with ADHD experts on ideas and content that is new or especially targeted to our audience for future issues
  • Plan and develop 40 to 45 live, hour-long webinars annually with top ADHD experts; collaborate with experts on webinar descriptions and assets
  • Moderate live webinars as needed

Requirements:

  • Significant print magazine experience — planning, editing, and closing issues on deadline
  • Impeccable writing and editing skills; must be able translate complex information into readable, empathetic yet authoritative prose
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in health media and publishing; mental health journalism a plus
  • Experience with webinars, podcasts, and/or video content is a plus
  • A strong work ethic and top-notch productivity
  • BA or MA in journalism or English or equivalent years of experience
