The Journal of Drugs in Dermatology (JDD is a leading monthly PubMed journal that publishes original articles, case reports, journal “departments”, ride-along supplements and other unique content both in print and digital format.


The successful candidate will be responsible for the routing and editing of content, being the key contact for authors, handling production of all journal content from initiation to final files for print and digital, and leading the digital publishing editorial strategy. This role will work in close collaboration with the Managing Editor who oversees planning, and the Editorial Assistant who assists with manuscript workflow. We are looking for a candidate who not only enjoys medical editing, but is interested in enhancing the content we have, improving our digital reach, and engaging in creative content development and promotion, such as faculty interviews. 


Tasks and Responsibilities: 

  • Work to master our industry niche and therefore help improve the quality of our journal content, evaluate and edit manuscripts, research and discern novel content and play a key role in our growth. 
  • Spearhead our digital publishing editorial strategy, including improving our digital publishing reach and  expanding our digital publishing footprint.
  • Copyedit, proofread and “prep” articles to ensure adherence to [AMA] style and grammatical/medical accuracy; meeting deadlines and standards.
  • Serve as key liaison with lead authors, route proofs for approvals, interpret and implement author changes, and obtain publication agreements and permissions. 
  • Maintain the publication database (eJP) with all editorial department traffic including tracking submissions, coordinating the peer review process and facilitating slated content through to publication.
  • Continually grow knowledge of industry standards and developments in general and in particular with respect to digital content outflow and dermatology content.
  • Help promote the journal in the medical community through relationships with the Editorial Board and industry events. 
  • Works alongside Editorial Assistant to ensure effective, accurate and efficient workflows
  • Work as liaison to Web Team and Sales Team for necessary content management. 


Education, Experience & Skills 

  • 6 years of editorial experience at a peer-reviewed, indexed journal
  • 2 years of experience specializing in digital publishing
  • Strong editorial eye and outstanding organizational skills, and a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills with internal & external stakeholder
  • Drive and ability to meet fast paced and demanding editorial deadlines
  • Positive, friendly attitude, and team spirit
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)
