Position Summary:
The Trauma Program Registrar (TPR) position is an integral part of the success of the trauma program. Direct responsibility for collaborative identification of patients who meet the inclusion criteria into the database as well as ensuring correct identification of exclusion criteria. Accurate and timely abstraction of data is required and a formal program for data reliability and validation is required to ensure a high-quality database able to be used for program planning, improving patient care with evidence-based data, ensuring high quality patient care, and allowing benchmarking to evaluate outcomes.
Qualifications:
Required credentials:
- Associate or bachelor's degree or high school graduate with equivalent registrar work experience
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology
- 2 years medical coding or experience working with trauma registry databases and handling medical information in a health care setting
- License/Certifications: Board Certified AIS Coding Specialist and Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry required within 2 years from date of hire.
- Completed American Trauma Society trauma registry course.
- Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAIS)
- Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR)
- ICD-10 course or review within five years
