The Laboratory Technician will provide support to the Technical Manager in all areas of asphalt and paving applications including testing, mix design, and special projects as needed. Assist with planning, development, implementation, and administration of quality assurance and quality control in all VSSE/VSSI labs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES include the following.  Actual scope of responsibility will often exceed this general outline.
 
 
  • Must have the ability to appear for work on time. Attendance and detail oriented is essential to this position.
  • Manage the process of keeping all certifications in order and up to date including responsibility for AASHTO accreditation.
  • Must have the ability to follow directions from Management.
  • Must have the ability to interact effectively with others. Expected and accountable to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in an effective manner with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
  • Must have the ability to accept constructive criticism.
  • Must have the ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Willing to work with construction materials and maintain a clean working environment.
  • Understand and teach others how to read and run standard test methods and practices.
  • Monitor product quality to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Monitors quality assurance and quality control analysis design review sampling, testing, and training.
  • Order and inventory materials to maintain supplies.
  • Dedicated to safe work practices.
  • Attend periodic training courses and industry seminars and workshops.
  • Keep a neat, well recorded lab notebook and other records.
  • Run and record quality assurance tests and test results.
  • Conduct pavement mix designs and testing.
  • Willing to work some weekends and overtime.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Must have excellent communications skills both written and verbal to interact with internal and external drivers and customers.
  • Proven leadership qualities.
  • Must possess the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects utilizing organizational skills and communications skills.
  • Strong sense of responsibility regarding timely and accurate completion of work, and a strong commitment to corporate goals.
  • Must be capable of functioning under fast pace stressful working conditions.
 
EDUCATIONS and/or WORK EXPERIENCE:
 
  • Bachelor's Degree (four year college or technical school) or Work Equivalent, Field of Study: Chemistry or related field + lab experience
  • Practical experience in a lab.
  • Good computer skills including working with spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
  • Understanding of basic lab practices and math calculation skills. Good record keeping and reporting skills.
