Job Summary:

A Registered Nurse - Continence Advisor (NCA) is an independent practice role with a focus on conservative methods of managing urinary and fecal incontinence within the full scope of their professional practice, as set by the College of Nurses of Ontario, in the Regulated Health Professions Act and the regulations under this Act. 

Responsibilities:

NCAs are Registered Nurses who have achieved the recognized educational certification as Nurse Continence Advisor and maintain their specialist competency through continuing education and clinical practice

  • Utilizes the nursing process, applicable standards and principles of quality management in the provision of safe, comprehensive and client directed health care
  • Validation of client's health history through a thorough, relevant physical examination
  • Ability to function and describe appropriate documentation

Qualification:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Certificate in Nursing Continence Advisor Certificate 
  • Minimum of one year relevant clinical practice, ideally in a community setting 
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification 
  • Demonstrated skill in observation, independent assessment, health teaching, communication and interpersonal relationship building
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve independently, to function as an independent practitioner and to work collaboratively as a member of the healthcare team 
  • Demonstrates skills in teacher/resource roles and consultative working roles 
  • Knowledge of community resources 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high stress environment
  • Critical thinking and multi-tasking skills
  • Possession of own vehicle, a current driver’s license and proof of car insurance
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required upon the start of your employment
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required
  • Ability to speak French is an asset in French Designated areas
