VMLY&R is searching for a Director Experience Design. The director, experience design, UX, is responsible for identifying strategic design opportunities across one or more client portfolios and guiding clients from intent through solution. As an XD leader, they will work more often with people who don’t necessarily think like a designer, which will require them to lead workshops and communicate with business leadership in their language.

Required Skills

  • Excel in client presentations and nondesigner communication  
  • Knowledgeable of full portfolio for assigned client/clients and seek opportunities for growing the client 
  • Lead human-centered design workshops, stakeholder interviews, strategic thinking and portfolio-level planning 
  • Collaborate with experience strategy on discovery and experience goals 
  • Oversee work, guide skill development and inspire their team of designers 
  • Set the experience vision for products/projects  heavily influence visual and conversation stylings  
  • Ensure design teams meet accessibility, SEO, brand standards, content strategy and development needs 
  • Act as point of escalation for client communications and design team concerns 
  • A working manager, the director will both oversee deliverables and create them for assigned projects 
  • Client relationship management  
  • Strong experience strategy skills and an eye for compelling digital storytelling 
  • Can find creative and innovative ways to get things done effectively and collaboratively 
  • Continuous learner of technology; promoting it, using it and finding new tools to make us more effective 
  • Ability to distill complex ideas for our clients, defend the work and be the expert in the room 
  • Strong writing skills, creativity and passion for human-centered design   
  • Experience leading multiple account portfolios and the teams that support them 
  • Ability to develop relationships, and plan and execute autonomously 
  • Ability to organize different teams (internally and externally) around shared goals and keep stakeholders engaged 
  • Experience working on and leading multiple projects simultaneously across large cross-discipline agile teams  

Required Experience

  • bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in liberal arts, human-centered design or equivalent in a related field preferred  
  • A minimum of 8-10 years working in a user experience role with at least 5 of those years in a strategic leadership role 
  • Experience researching and developing strategic solutions for high-traffic digital experiences 
  • Advanced knowledge of HCD and design thinking methods 
  • A portfolio of excellence in design and strategic thinking 
  • Digital agency experience and background required
