VMLY&R is seeking a media and communications native to join the agency’s connections planning group as Connections Strategy Director. Working directly with clients and internal teams, you will be primarily responsible for developing and compelling, holistic communications programs, setting the vision for bringing the consumer experience to life across paid, owned and earned channels and mapping campaign ecosystems.

The right candidate will be passionate about architecting consumer experiences and communications; have an astute understanding of developing data-based and consumer-inspired journeys; possess the vision to help develop the connections strategy practice; feel inspired working alongside creative, media, data and strategy team members; be an organizational leader who believes in and promotes collaboration.

Serves as the bridge between creative and media (paid, owned and earned) strategy, building the framework that inspires in-market activation and the consumer experience: 

Responsibilities

  • Works with the brand strategy team to develops data-based, consumer-led journeys, synthesizing information from multiple resources (primary and secondary research) to prove out stages, mindsets, needs, and barriers across the journey, with a focus on messaging and touchpoints
  • Architects holistic, omni-channel approach to connections strategies, designed to change behavior and provide media and creative guidance across paid, owned, and earned channels
  • Creates maps of how campaigns come to life across touchpoints and over time
  • Collaborates closely with data & analytics, brand strategy, media and creative teams to inspire activation ideas
  • Champions new ways of thinking, and developing new models or processes that achieve the best results for internal teams and clients 
  • Consistently educates clients and internal teams on connections strategy role, value and best practices 
  • Savvy with a wide array of communications channels – both digital and traditional – & data signals that can be used to personalize messages and experiences across the consumer journey

Skills and Experience

  • 8-10 years of experience in a strategic marketing role – media or digital marketing strategy
  • Developing and supporting marketing strategies that are data-led and deliver on performance results and client business objectives
  • Team leadership with senior level clients and potential new business
  • Working on projects to ensure they are meeting internal and client expectations
  • Experience in media strategy or communications planning is a plus
  • Deep knowledge and hands-on experience working across marketing channels
  • Experience using touchpoint planning and audience insight tools, such as MRI/Simmons, Helixa, Global Web Index, Infegy, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead employees and teams
  • Demonstrated success with client relationships, team management and business development
  • Comfort level forging new ways of working and collaborating in a highly matrixed environment
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Focused attention to detail
