WHAT IS THE ROLE ABOUT? As our Sr DevOps Engineer, you will be working with other Engineering teams to define, build, and manage our AWS infrastructure. You’ll be on point to introduce new services and tools that support application development and enhance operational performance and visibility. And, you will work closely alongside the security team to strengthen system and data security safeguards, and to achieve security compliance certifications.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:         
  • Work with senior engineers as well as the DevOps Director to deliver quality automated solutions
  • Work to improve, build, test and deploy processes related to CI/CD pipelines for multiple software applications and environments
  • Actively collaborate with other team members responsible for deploying various applications into production
  • Create and update Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to make changes to our cloud-based infrastructure
  • Work with Site Reliability Engineer to create and maintain monitoring & alerting systems that guarantee high availability and performance for software applications
  • Serve in an on-call capacity when outages occur to assist with troubleshooting and outage remediation
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned as needed
 
YOU MUST HAVE (MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE):    
  • High School Diploma/GED minimum
  • 3+ years of consistent work experience in a Sr DevOps Engineer role
  • Hands-on experience with using infrastructure definition software Terraform and Cloudformation
  • Hands-on experience with using Hashicorp Packer and Chef as configuration and automation tools
  • Advanced level technical and hands-on work experience with:
    • Container orchestration tools (i.e. Kubernetes/EKS or ECS) in a production environment
    • Docker or other containerization tools
    • Either Ruby or Python programming languages
    • BASH/Shell scripting tools for automating tasks and managing systems
    • AWS CodeDeploy and CodePipeline
    • Building durable, efficient and fully automated CI/CD solutions
    • Core AWS services (EC2, S3, VPC, Route53, RDS, etc.)
    • SQL and document-oriented databases
    • Git and GitHub
    • Hosting complex, large-scalable web applications
    • Implementing and operating enterprise-scale monitoring tools (i.e. New Relic or Datadog)
  • Agile processes
  • Advanced documentation skills
  • Advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to accurately translate and convey technical information to non-technical audience(s)
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to serve in an on-call capacity as needed to assist with troubleshooting and outage remediation
 
IDEAL IF YOU HAVE (PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE):   
  • Experience with managing projects and ensuring deliverables meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with educational technology industry
 
LOCATION: Remote/Hybrid-Remote (Boston)
This position can be fully remote within the continental United States or local to Boston, MA. If remote, travel to Boston, MA office location a few times per year will be required. If local to Boston, may be required to work a 2-day Hybrid in-office/3-day remote schedule from our Boston office location. Candidates must reside in the United States to be considered. Relocation is not available for this position.
