Visionist is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to support and lead a variety of administrative functions for a cyber mission. We are seeking an individual who is a player-coach with a passion for leading a small team of system administrators. The team supports the work of developers who create specialized capabilities for operations.

In this hands-on role, you work directly with developers and testers to provision, configure, and maintain desktop, virtual and physical lab environments to test and operate their capabilities. In addition to providing Tier 1-4 support to users, it is the responsibility of you and your team to maintain a high level of infrastructure availability to include, configuring networks and devices alongside developers, and identifying new hardware and software needed to propel their solutions to the next level. You will be administering virtual machines, procuring, and setting up servers, and configuring devices to work in several modes within a lab. You will maintain drawings and specifications and provide responsive customer service to developers and Government leaders. This non-mission essential role offers great work-life balance, standard business hours, and the convenience of being in the National Business Park area. 


  • Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) systems.
  • Manage IT system infrastructure and any processes related to these systems.
  • Provide support to IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client/server/storage/network devices, mobile devices, etc.
  • Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems.
  • Provide support for the escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers.
  • Provide support for the dispatch system and hardware problems and remains involved in the resolution process.
  • Configure and manage UNIX and Windows operating systems and installs/loads operating system software, troubleshoots, maintains integrity and configures network components along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance. 


  • 15 years of experience as a systems administrator supporting projects of similar scope.
  • Lab management experience, including tracking of inventory, work with developers to configure devices and compute equipment, and designing, sustaining and maintain all technology within.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills and involvement with user support/tier 1-4.
  • Significant experience with Linux (CentOS/RHEL) and scripting/automating.
  • Experience with virtualization (VMWare/OpenStack) and hardware (servers/switches/SANs).
  • Experience working with customer security requirements and tools to support development efforts.
  • Security+ certification or better required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is preferred, however an additional 5 years of experience may be substituted for a degree.

  • Experience with networking and/or authentication/IPA
  • Experience with Ansible and docker/containerization/orchestration
