Vetwest Currambine are seeking an enthusiastic nurse with an interest in orthopaedics to work alongside our friendly experienced team. We perform TPLO cruciate repair, patella surgery, pennhip xrays and JPS surgery. Most excitingly we are currently awaiting the arrival of our laparascope and our orthopaedic team will be branching out to offer laparascopic soft tissue surgery. We have 2 to 3 days available in this role with the flexibility of being full time by working in general practice as well to maintain all your skills.

Vetwest Currambine is a large team of 6 vets and 14 nurses/AA that can provide you with all the support you need to continue your growth as a nurse. The clinic has 5 consult rooms, 2 surgery rooms, dental suite and separate dog and cat wards. As a team we strive to provide gold standard of care whilst continually looking at new ways of improving our standards. The team have a collaborative approach to workflow and where improvements can be made.

The Orthopaedic nursing role includes:

> Surgery Nurse

- Collecting Prega bloods, placing catheters and general set up of surgery

Managing and providing assistance to the orthopaedic surgeon whilst in surgery

- Monitoring the patients general anaesthetic 

- Perform pre and post operative xrays

- Prepare patients for surgery and recovery including CRI pain relief, Fentanyl patches, bandaging and medications to take home.

- Billing of surgeries

> Client Liaison

- Speaking with clients in regards to questions and information about our procedures

- Admitting and discharging patients once the Orthopaedic surgeon has spoken to the client.

> Schedule Management

Managing the schedule to maximise our team efficiency enabling our surgeon to concentrate on his patients. This includes booking initial vet appointments, surgical appointments and follow up appointments.

> Maintenance of Orthopaedic equipment

 - Cleaning and autoclaving of orthopaedic equipment

- Organising repairs, maintenance and servicing of Orthopaedic equipment 

> Stock Control

- Ordering of Orthopaedic supplies and instruments

- Completing a stock take regularly of Orthopaedic consumables and hardware

 > Assisting the GP team if needed

Qualification required: Cert IV in Veterinary nursing with a minimum of 2 years surgical experience. Please provide a cover letter detailing your surgical experience with your application to [email protected]
