Specialist Surgeon

SouthPaws Specialty Surgery - Moorabbin Moorabbin, VIC Full time RR-5694

Description

Position at SouthPaws

Specialist Surgeon

Develop a meaningful and long-lasting career by joining the Southpaws team!
Southpaws is seeking a Board Registered Specialist in Small Animal Surgery who will embrace our friendly and collaborative team culture, and share in our vision to be first choice in expert veterinary care.

Southpaws is one of Australia's best regarded surgical centres and referral hospitals.
We are looking for a talented team player that not only excels clinically and professionally, but will continue our proud heritage of training and mentoring future generations of veterinary professionals. This includes our skilled nurses, rotating interns, surgical interns and ECVS Surgical Residents. We have one of the largest veterinary surgery training programs in Australia.

We have 3 locations all uniquely appointed to optimise surgical capability and efficiency. Some of our most valuable assets include our talented nurses, specialist-led anesthesia department and 24-hour care provided by our dedicated ECC teams.

It doesn’t stop there, with modern surgical theatres, CT, fluoroscopy, and digital radiography as well as arthroscopy, electro-chemotherapy and comprehensive in-house laboratories.

We are a modern hospital contingent boasting EzyVet, Smartflow, Idexx and Cubex systems all integrating and designed to create a continuous digital patient journey from first appointment through to discharge.

We asked our team what they love and value the most about being at Southpaws, and here’s what they said:
Specialist anaesthetia department - The anaesthetia team plays a crucial role in alleviating the mental load on surgeons and supporting our patients through their journey. Advanced nerve blocks and analgesia amongst other techniques improves anaesthetic stability, reduces anaesthesia time and results in faster, pain-free recoveries post-operatively. Surgeons get to focus on the surgery!

Varied Caseload with Strong Support – The caseload is diverse, providing opportunities for engagement in various areas of surgery, from minimally invasive and interventional radiology, to advanced oncologic, soft tissue, neurologic and orthopaedic surgery (including THR and joint resurfacing). With incredible support from residents and interns inhouse and with an amazing network of referral clinicians our clients are well catered for making the surgeons role as stress free as possible.

Dedicated and Growth-oriented Nursing Team - The nurses in our team are known for their enthusiasm for helping others and continuously expanding their skills. This commitment to personal and professional growth creates a positive and supportive work environment and makes for a rewarding experience for our surgeons.

On-call responsibilities – Having a large surgical team with resident support reduces the frequency of on-call and weekend work, whilst also increasing the level of clinical support when you are working. The surgeons rosters are based on a 4 day week to optimise work and life commitments.

Best of Both Worlds - Our Owner/Director ensures a personal, family-feel in the business, creating a work environment where every team member feels valued and connected. Dr. James Simcock is passionately and authentically engaged with every individual's career development, fostering a sense of purpose and growth. A positive partnership with Australia’s largest veterinary corporate further supports our ability to invest in our team, facilities and the future.
