We’re looking for an experienced Payroll Team Leader to lead the delivery of compliant, accurate and timely payroll across our growing Australia and New Zealand network, while supporting the integration of newly acquired clinics.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a payroll expert who thrives in complexity, enjoys mentoring others, and brings a strong compliance mindset to everything they do.

Reporting to the Head of Payroll, the Payroll Team Leader is responsible for overseeing end-to-end payroll delivery, ensuring legislative compliance, and leading a high-performing payroll team. You’ll bring deep expertise across at least two Australian and New Zealand payroll specialisations, with growing exposure to governance and M&A activities.

You’ll work closely with People & Culture, Finance, Risk & Compliance, and external vendors to ensure payroll outcomes meet both operational and regulatory requirements.

 

Key responsibilities  

Payroll Delivery & Operations

  • Deliver end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and data integrity

  • Prioritise workloads, allocate resources and resolve complex payroll issues

  • Conduct regular audits of payroll masterfile data, workflows and outputs

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with Australian and New Zealand payroll legislation, awards and agreements

  • Manage PAYG/PAYE, Superannuation/KiwiSaver, payroll tax and statutory reporting (STP/IRD)

  • Prepare payroll reports and support internal and interdepartmental audits

Specialist Payroll Expertise

  • Provide subject matter expertise across two or more payroll specialisations in Australia and/or New Zealand, including complex taxation, terminations, statutory leave and award obligations

Governance & M&A

  • Develop, maintain and audit payroll governance processes

  • Audit payroll masterfile and payment records

  • Support post-acquisition payroll onboarding and data integration

Leadership & Relationships

  • Lead, coach and develop Payroll Officers and Senior Payroll Officers

  • Build strong partnerships with People & Culture, Finance, operational leaders and vendors

  • Manage payroll enquiries and service levels via Jira or similar tools

About you

You are a confident payroll leader with a strong compliance mindset and a genuine commitment to service excellence. You enjoy solving complex problems, sharing knowledge, and supporting your team to grow.

You will bring:

  • 7+ years’ end-to-end payroll experience across Australia and/or New Zealand

  • At least 2 years’ experience leading or supervising a payroll team

  • Strong working knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory obligations

  • Experience in payroll audits, governance or M&A activities (highly regarded)

  • Exceptional attention to detail and data integrity

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

  • Tertiary payroll certification desirable (or equivalent practical experience)
