Medicine Veterinary Nurse – Permanent Full-Time
North Shore Veterinary Specialist Hospital | Sydney

North Shore Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Centre is a leading referral hospital located in the heart of Sydney, providing exceptional specialist care 24/7, 365 days a year.
We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, and experienced Medicine Veterinary Nurse to join our growing Internal Medicine team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside a highly skilled group of Specialists, Interns, and dedicated referral nurses, collaborating closely with our Surgery and Critical Care teams to deliver the very best outcomes for our patients.
 
About the Role
Our Medicine Nurses play a vital role in ensuring the smooth daily operation of the Medicine service.
Your responsibilities will include:
 
  • Assisting with patient assessments and developing daily care plans in collaboration with clinicians and other departments.
  • Setting up and assisting with specialist procedures, CT, MRI, radiography, and ongoing patient monitoring.
  • Performing a wide range of nursing duties including IV and urinary catheter placement, radiography, anaesthetic induction and monitoring, sample collection, diagnostic testing, and intensive care monitoring.
  • Providing high-quality pre- and post-operative care and supporting hospital-wide patient management.
  • Maintaining communication with clients, keeping them informed, providing reassurance, and demonstrating empathy throughout their pet’s care journey.
The role includes participation in a rotating roster of weekday and weekend shifts, with occasional public holiday work as required.
 
About You
You are a confident, compassionate nurse who thrives in a team environment but can also work independently with initiative and strong clinical judgment.
You bring:
  • A strong interest and experience in internal medicine and patient care.
  • Excellent small-animal handling and technical nursing skills.
  • Previous experience in a specialist or referral hospital (desirable but not essential).
  • Proficiency in sedation and anaesthesia techniques for sick and critically ill patients.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills.
  • Clear and professional communication—both written and verbal.
  • A calm, empathetic approach when supporting clients through challenging situations.
  • A positive attitude and commitment to teamwork and continuous learning.
 
Qualifications:
Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or Veterinary Technician degree, with at least four years’ clinical experience.
