Veterinary Nurse – Maternity Leave Cover (Fixed-Term, Full-Time – 6 Months)

At Oxley Highway Vet Hospital, we are seeking an experienced and compassionate Veterinary Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team on a 6-month maternity leave cover contract, with the potential for ongoing employment thereafter.

About the Role

You will be working full-time alongside experienced vets and nurses, providing high-quality nursing care across a varied and interesting caseload. Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting our veterinarians with routine exams and procedures

  • Providing surgical and hospital nursing care, including anaesthetic monitoring

  • Delivering pre- and post-operative patient care, as well as offering grief support to clients

  • Administering medications and preparing treatments as required

  • Managing the admission and discharge process for surgical and hospital patients

  • Communicating treatment plans and updates to clients

  • Performing blood collection, testing, and IV catheter placement

  • Assisting with diagnostic imaging (x-rays and ultrasounds)

  • Supporting dental care, including scale and polish and performing dental x-rays

  • Contributing to day-to-day nursing tasks to support our vets and team in providing the highest standard of patient care

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a qualified Veterinary Nurse

  • Confidence in both surgical and medical nursing

  • Strong anaesthetic monitoring skills

  • Excellent communication and client care abilities

  • Ability to work well within a close-knit team

  • A calm, organised, and proactive approach under pressure
