Ophthalmology Internship (12-Month Training Opportunity)

Animal Eye Care is seeking an experienced Veterinarian with a demonstrated interest in Ophthalmology to join our specialist team. Applicants must be eligible for veterinary registration in Victoria.

This is a 12-month structured training opportunity, commencing as an Internship, with the potential to progress into a Residency program subject to satisfactory performance.

About the Role

As an Intern, you will play an integral role in the day-to-day management of ophthalmology cases, working closely with Specialists, Residents, and a highly experienced nursing team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with consultations and case work-ups

  • Supporting diagnostic procedures such as electroretinography (ERG), ultrasonography, and ocular paracentesis

  • Assisting with anaesthesia and surgical case management

  • Participating in a diverse caseload including small animals, exotics, equine, and zoo species

  • Contributing to occasional emergency and after-hours care as part of a shared roster

This is a busy referral-based practice offering exposure to a high medical and surgical caseload, making it an excellent foundation for those pursuing specialisation.

  • Slit lamp biomicroscopes and indirect ophthalmoscopes

  • Digital retinal imaging

  • Tonometry (TonoVet and Tono-Pen)

  • High-frequency ocular ultrasound

  • Electroretinography (ERG)

  • In-house laboratory for tear testing, cytology, and diagnostics

  • Fully equipped surgical suite for cataract, corneal, and eyelid procedures

  • Latest White Star Phaco machine with Fusion Fluidics
