Southern Animal Health is seeking a Lead Veterinarian to guide and support our established veterinary team in our large purpose-built, state-of-the-art Bayside hospital.

This is a genuine leadership role for a confident clinician who enjoys mentoring, collaboration and delivering high-quality medicine and surgery in a supportive, well-resourced environment.

About Us

Southern Animal Health is a busy, modern GP hospital positioned between general practice and referral level care. Incorporating Melbourne Bulldog Clinic (MBC), we see an exceptionally varied and interesting caseload - from routine preventative care through to complex medical and surgical cases, including some emergency and brachycephalic patients.

We are proud of our strong team culture, structured days, and focus on sustainable veterinary careers.

The Role

  • Work alongside our Practice Manager as well as our experienced vets and nurses in a collaborative environment

  • Shape the direction of clinical care while still enjoying hands-on practice

This role suits a senior GP vet who enjoys surgery, complex cases and team leadership, without the pressure of KPIs or unrealistic workloads.

What We Offer

  • Purpose-built, fully equipped hospital with advanced diagnostic and surgical capability

  • 30-minute standard consultations

  • No routine consults from 2:00–3:00pm daily - dedicated time for lunch, rounds, case discussion, collaboration and decompression

  • Strong internal support, second opinions always available and daily case collaboration

  • Interesting and rewarding caseload, including brachycephalic medicine and surgery

  • Flexibility to pursue your interests in surgery or medicine

Leave & Benefits

  • 1 weekday off per week

  • 4 weeks annual leave

  • 1 week paid study leave

  • CPD allowance

  • Monday RDO when a weekend is worked

  • Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance available for eligible international candidates

About You

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience as a GP veterinarian

  • Confident clinician with a collaborative leadership style

  • Interest in mentoring and developing both yourself and your team

  • Calm, practical and approachable

  • A good sense of humour and appreciation for a supportive workplace culture
