Surgery Internship – 12 months fixed term

As one of Western Australia’s longest running and largest specialist veterinary referral hospitals, Perth Veterinary Specialists (PVS) are seeking a dedicated Surgery Intern to join our dynamic team!

This internship offers a fantastic opportunity to develop your clinical skills and gain hands-on experience in surgical diagnosis and patient management.

Who are we:

Perth Veterinary Specialists are a state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary hospital with services in surgery, anaesthesia, medicine, oncology, diagnostic imaging, dermatology, and a dedicated emergency team. This highly equipped facility, in conjunction with our exceptional and experienced staff, allows us to provide excellent patient care day and night.

The internship:

This Internship will provide the opportunity to immerse yourself in a specialist hospital environment, advancing your surgical skills under the guidance of our incredibly talented team, in a supportive and positive environment. It is also an opportunity to prepare for ANZCVS membership examinations and potential residency programs.

Typical day-to-day tasks include, but not limited to:

  • Participate in patient hand over with our emergency team, assessing patients before and after surgery and collaborating with our experienced nursing staff.

  • Assisting our specialist surgeons in surgical procedures and patient consultations.

  • Preparing clinical records, including patient assessments and discharge letters.

  • Engaging in tutorials and case discussions to further your learning.

  • The opportunity to perform hands-on tasks such as bandage changes, small lump removals, desexing and neurological assessments

About you:

We are looking for someone with a sound surgical knowledge base that we can build upon. Whilst your experience is important, we are seeking someone who is a team player, an active learner, that is committed to providing patient care of the highest standard.

Above all you need to have a positive outlook and constructive approach to your work.

You must hold a Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent and be registered to practice in Western Australia.
