Located in Houston, the Development Underwriting Associate will provide support to our Development Team and its efforts in supporting Venterra’s initiatives in the development of multifamily properties. In this role, the ideal candidate will be responsible for underwriting potential developments, conducting market investigations, and development-related data research. 


  • Responsible for performing full-scale underwriting and complete decision support analysis of potential development opportunities
  • Create and maintain financial models and various ad hoc analyses for investment decisions
  • Responsible for maintaining underwriting consistency across all projects
  • Prepare findings and materials required for the Investment Committee, Investors, and Construction Lenders
  • On-site visits and assessment of assets and markets, site locations, and competitors
  • Perform risk assessment & data evaluation on information sourced and provide
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of the factors affecting the marketplace and proactively provide research to leverage this knowledge for the organization
  • Performing decision support analysis and due diligence on potential real estate developments
  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to provide customer service and increase the goodwill and profit of the company


  • Related Undergraduate Degree required, MS in Real Estate or MBA is desirable
  • Minimum of three years of experience in multi-family development, investment, and financial analysis – extensive experience underwriting multifamily investments is required
  • Shows initiative and takes accountability for the outcome of decisions
  • The ideal candidate will be equally an independent self-starter and a solid team player.
  • Detail-oriented, Analytical thinker/problem solver in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong financial analysis foundation (Deep understanding of real estate finance, asset valuation, and financial modeling)
  • Superior Excel skills are essential
  • Critical thinking is required to successfully advance the projects
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to distill large amounts of unstructured/structured data into concise, actionable insights
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal – the role will require frequent interaction with senior executives and the investment committee
