THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Engineer to join our multifamily housing maintenance team. This role is essential in addressing and solving complex maintenance and construction challenges that go beyond standard operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in construction, a proactive problem-solving mindset, and the ability to implement innovative solutions to ensure the safety, efficiency, and long-term durability of our properties.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Troubleshoot and Solve Maintenance/Construction Complex Issues: Analyze and resolve advanced construction and maintenance problems, including structural repairs, plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems, and other challenges that require creative solutions.
- Lead Special Projects: Oversee the design, planning, and execution of specialized maintenance and repair projects, ensuring adherence to budget, timelines, and quality standards.
- Assess and Improve Infrastructure: Evaluate the condition of existing infrastructure and systems, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance property performance and reduce long-term costs.
- Ensure Compliance: Stay informed of local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and safety standards to ensure all work is compliant and meets industry best practices.
- Data and Root Cause Analysis: Leverage data, inspections, and technical assessments to identify recurring issues and develop long-term preventative maintenance strategies.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with property managers, maintenance staff, and external contractors to diagnose problems, evaluate potential solutions, and execute plans effectively.
- Training and Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and training to maintenance staff on advanced troubleshooting techniques and best practices for ongoing property care.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction, property maintenance, or operations engineering, with a proven track record of handling complex repair and maintenance challenges.
- Project Management: Experience managing large-scale or specialized repair and renovation projects, including contractor oversight and resource allocation.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of construction systems, including mechanical, electrical, and structural components.
- Technical Tools: Proficient in using CMMS software, AutoCAD, or other engineering and maintenance tools.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional ability to diagnose and solve non-standard maintenance and construction issues with innovative, cost-effective solutions.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience.
- Education / Certifications (preferred): Professional Engineering (PE) license, LEED accreditation, or other relevant certifications are a plus; Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field would be an asset.
