This is currently a home-based position during the pandemic. The role will ultimately be a hybrid of in-office and work from home.

Our solutions have been a combination of implementing customized third-party solutions and building solutions from scratch. In support of Venterra’s growth plan, the Technology Team is in the process of executing a digital transformation of its platform that enables us to scale our systems and to enable the business to make better decisions by unlocking value from existing and new data.

Reporting to the Lead Architect, this hands-on role will design, build, optimize, and support the operations of complex data systems and data management solutions.  Collaborating with business and technology stakeholders that include BI, DevOps, Architecture, the Data Architect will contribute to Venterra’s data strategy and product roadmap, translate business needs into technical solutions and be Venterra’s leader and subject matter expert in all data related matters in technology.  This comprises (but not limited to) supporting a centralized data warehouse as the “one source of truth” for the entire organization, standardizing naming conventions, establishing consistent data definitions, direct responsibility for managing and implementing the data catalog/dictionary, managing overall data quality and associated business rules and creating and implementing a data integrity and change management plan.  The Data Architect will help evaluate the selection of data management tools as well personally execute implementation.   


  • Work closely with various stakeholders to contribute to the roadmap and overall data strategy for Venterra.
  • Define data architecture frameworks and drive standardization and best practices for data structures, quality, reuse, security, privacy, and governance.
  • Perform database tuning, optimization, maintenance, troubleshooting and recommend changes to improve database design or performance to support operations of our application databases and Data Warehouse.
  • Build and maintain automated test suite for the data warehouse.
  • Collaborate with business and technology team to guide solutions being built to ensure they align with Venterra’s data strategy and roadmap.
  • Lead the implementation of solutions that incorporate Data Lakes, Data Catalogs, Data Management and Data Governance software.
  • Research current and emergent trends and technologies to recommend evolutions in Venterra’s platform and support the solutions being delivered.
  • Mentoring, reviewing, and testing to support the work and development of other individuals.
  • Be the owner for Venterra’s data platform and ecosystem.


  • University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
  • 10+ years relevant experience working in technology (preferably large-scaled environments)
  • Previous experience as a Data Architect or with data architecture building highly scalable reusable data ecosystems.
  • Significant experience with the design, development, and maintenance of data systems
  • Technical knowledge and depth in Software Architecture, relational database design, configuration, and administration of database systems (SQL Server a plus).
  • Working knowledge of Business Intelligence Systems, Data Lakes, Data Warehouses and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with SSRS, SSIS and SASS or similar systems.
  • Experience working with Cloud Platforms (AWS a plus).
  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • JIRA experience a plus
  • Experience with reporting schemas including data modelling, data ingestion, data quality platforms a plus
  • Experience with Big Data Analytics systems a plus.
  • Certifications such as TOGAF, DMBok a plus
  • Must work well in a team environment. This role requires extensive collaboration with most of the core functional areas of the business.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with varying degree of involvement.
  • Ability to be able to work productively in a hybrid remote and in office environment.
