What You’ll Do  

You will have primary responsibility for driving innovation and business development for Vaniam Group. Along with your Business Strategy colleagues, you will evaluate opportunities in the medical communications marketplace to evolve, innovate, and invent, Vaniam Group capabilities that meet client needs and position Vaniam Group as the premier medical communications partner. 


You will have primary responsibility in developing new business opportunities and will be responsible for prospecting, lead generation and qualification, presenting solutions, objection handling, and obtaining client commitment to Vaniam Group products and services.  


You will also collaborate with clients and our internal team to ensure secured VG projects align with individual client goals and drive organic growth. You must likewise excel in driving cross-functional collaborations with partners in Medical Strategy, Scientific Communications, Client Services, and across the organization more broadly.  


A Day in the Life  


There are three key areas of responsibility: 1) Market Knowledge 2) Business Development, and 3) Internal Collaborations 

1. Market Knowledge: 

  • Understand therapeutic trends and financial market factors in the field of oncology/hematology 
  • Understand client pipelines, lifecycle positions, and make corresponding actionable product and service recommendations; ability to converse with clients on market factors, lifecycle and/or competitive events 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of healthcare regulations directly or indirectly applicable to Vaniam Group products and services 
2. Business Development: 
  • Develop, lead, and/or support presentations to prospective clients, securing new business opportunities  
  • Contribute to the adoption and optimization internal tools, initiatives, and processes designed to streamline business development and improve operational decision-making  
  • Develop proposals, statements of work, and provide timely follow to client requests 
  • Serve a trusted representative and resource on a personal basis with clients  
3. Internal Collaborations: 
  • Work closely with internal counterparts across different areas of the organization to achieve strategic business objectives 
  • Work with other Business Strategy team members and outside departments to concept and incubate new VG capabilities 
  • Work with Brand Strategy/Marketing team to develop and implement marketing initiatives related to VG capabilities 
  • Lead and foster growth for direct reports (if any), leveraging the talents and skills of a team to optimal effect   

What You Have  

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree  
  • A minimum of three years of work experience in academia, healthcare communications agency, or biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry 
  • Exceptional working knowledge of the pharmaceutical and biotech industries related to both commercial and medical affairs initiatives 
  • Ability to innovate and brainstorm new ideas for driving new business opportunities 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively in a dynamic, virtual environment 
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills and ability to synthesize high volumes of complex information 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills including the ability to analyze information skillfully, develop alternative solutions and work well in group problem solving solutions  
  • Ability to manage direct reports (if any) and ensure adherence to expectations while fostering professional growth 
  • Ability to multitask and work within high-pressure situations  
  • Ability to manage and prioritize personal and team workload effectively  
  • Flexible, adaptable and “cool under pressure” nature 
  • Results-oriented mentality with a commitment to accountability  
  • Sense of urgency to obtain results  
  • Ability to travel within the US and internationally as necessary, based on project, client, and organizational needs (50% travel expected). Travel is currently restricted due to the evolving COVID-19 situation 


The Team You’ll Work Closest With 

The Business Strategy team is the business planning and development arm of Vaniam Group. Business Strategy applies evidence-based planning and metric-driven analysis to enhance and develop new service and product offerings and to drive business development across the organization. The Business Strategy team has primary accountability for business planning, marketing and branding, operational efficiencies, and new business development.  This team is expected to have a strong understanding of the oncology marketplace and exceptional connectivity. You will collaborate with multiple departments within Vaniam including, but not limited to, business strategy, medical strategy, scientific communications, program services, and client services
