Role Overview: The Assistant Coach serves as a key member of the athletic program and works under the direct supervision of the Head Coach. Assistant Coaches support the development of student-athletes both on and off the field of play by helping create a positive, competitive, and growth-oriented team culture aligned with the mission and values of Valor Collegiate Academies. At Valor, athletics is an extension of the educational experience. Coaches are expected to develop students holistically by emphasizing character, leadership, accountability, teamwork, and sportsmanship while providing a safe and meaningful athletic experience.

Assistant Coaches are evaluated on their contribution to the student-athlete experience, professionalism, communication, program organization, compliance, instructional effectiveness, commitment to Valor’s mission, and their ability to positively impact team culture and athlete development. Successful Assistant Coaches understand that coaching is about more than winning contests- it is about developing young people who are prepared to lead, serve, compete, and thrive long after their playing days are over.

  • Support the Head Coach in developing student-athletes as competitors, teammates, leaders, and people.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture.
  • Model and reinforce the values of integrity, accountability, respect, and perseverance.
  • Maintain Valor’s commitment to a positive coaching environment, including the expectation of a 4:1 positive-to-corrective feedback ratio.
  • Assist with practice planning, skill instruction, and competition preparation.
  • Attend and actively participate in all scheduled practices, competitions, team meetings, and team events.
  • Support supervision of student-athletes from the start of practices and competitions until athletes are released to their parents/guardians.
  • Maintain respectful, professional relationships and boundaries with student-athletes and families at all times.
  • Communicate positively and professionally with athletes, families, officials, opponents, colleagues, and school personnel.
  • Support and uphold decisions made by the Head Coach and Athletic Department.
  • Represent Valor Athletics in a manner that reflects the mission and values of the school.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in the Valor Employment Manual, Valor Athletics Handbook, and all applicable TSSAA rules and regulations.
  • Assist in ensuring student-athlete eligibility, safety, and compliance requirements are met.
  • Promote a safe environment free from hazing, bullying, harassment, or inappropriate conduct.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in all matters involving students and families.

Key Experiences and Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the rules and fundamentals of the sport.
  • Flexibility with personal schedule to accommodate the needs of the athletic program.
  • Grit and perseverance to work within a fast-paced, start-up environment
  • Commitment to using data and technology to personalize development for both adults and scholar-athletes

Schedule: This is a part-time, stipend role with the need for flexibility, as the majority of practice and game hours will be between the hours of 3pm-9pm. This season will start in the early Fall of 2026, running from July to October.
