Network & Systems Administrator
This position offices in-person, on campus 
 
 
ROLE SUMMARY
 
The Network & Systems Administrator at Valor Christian High School serves as a subject matter expert in helping the Director of Technology Services meet the mission, vision, and goals of the department and school by recommending, installing, configuring, and maintaining IT systems.  These systems include but are not limited to, phone, email, internet, file storage, wired and wireless networking, and safety and security systems.
 
This role also serves as a technical support representative to help the team in meeting their objectives, especially during busy times of the year.  Additionally, this position offers opportunities for professional development and industry certifications to further advance the knowledge, skills and abilities specific to this position.

Primary Responsibilities
 
  • Provide support and installation of the campus-wide wireless and wired network infrastructure, including Aruba Central and associated wired/wireless infrastructure, Cisco, and Juniper hardware
  • Maintain the campus WAN infrastructure ensuring security and regulatory compliance
  • Manage the installation, configuration, and maintenance of school-wide technology infrastructure, including servers, network devices, cloud services, and end-user devices (e.g., desktops, laptops, tablets)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN), virtualized and physical server administration, VoIP phone systems, and cloud-based technologies including Google Workspace and Microsoft 365/Azure 
  • Assist the Director of Technology Services in planning for and executing maintenance and upgrades of the entire network infrastructure 
  • Monitor the school’s network for security vulnerabilities and performance issues, troubleshooting and resolving problems promptly
  • Respond to network outages and issues
  • Ensure proper backups and disaster recovery procedures are in place to protect critical school data and systems
Manage Campus and Cloud Server Infrastructure
  • Provide support and installation of the campus-wide server infrastructure, including Windows physical servers and VMs, Linux servers, and associated Nutanix virtualized infrastructure
  • Ensure data resiliency and backups utilizing Veeam and Nutanix backup systems
  • Manage and configure Windows Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP
  • Apply industry-standard cybersecurity best practices to harden network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls, against emerging cyber threats.
  • Ensure regular patching and maintenance of all servers and hardware
  • Ensure security and regulatory compliance on all server systems
 
Manage Critical Security Infrastructure
  • Provide support and configuration oversight of campus access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection
  • Ensure continual operation of campus integrations with automated paging alerts, emergency notifications, and display messaging

RESULTS 
The server and network infrastructure maintain a smooth operation with minimal downtime for the school.  All employees and students enjoy high-speed reliable connectivity allowing for maximum productivity and efficiency. Cybersecurity is prioritized ensuring the school is guarded from external and internal attacks.
 
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES 
 
Education and Experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in network engineering, computer science, information technology or related field required
  • Experience in the nonprofit and/or educational sector is preferred
  • Demonstrable 3 years of experience managing a complex network/server infrastructure environment (Certifications will be considered as a replacement for experience)
  • Knowledge of Juniper, Cisco, Ubiquiti, Netgate, and Aruba networking hardware 
  • Experience with Azure cloud services and Azure Active Directory, including Microsoft 365 apps and services 
  • Experience working in a hybrid environment of Windows and Mac operating systems 
  • Knowledge of Nutanix virtualization and Veeam backup solutions 
  • Knowledge of Genetec Security Center a plus 
  • Experience working with audio and video distribution systems a plus 
  • Experience working with Google G-Suite a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work environment characteristics are varied and include classroom, office, and outdoor events while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is also varied.

POSITION TYPE: C: Year-round schedule. 12-Month Calendar. This position offices in-person, on campus.
