What You Will Do:

Performs cardiovascular ultrasound testing following established procedures; performs advanced echocardiographic procedures; ability to work independently and as a team member; ability to generate respect and confidence from others; maintains excellent interpersonal skills, has the ability to listen, can handle questions and complaints as well as resolve problems amicably; displays characteristics that support a corporate customer orientation; ability to de-escalate tense situations with patients/customers; ability to manage stress.
Performs cardiovascular ultrasound testing following established procedure: Explains procedure to patient and gives necessary instruction. Prepares patient for procedure including vital signs, attaching monitoring equipment and preparing diagnostic equipment as necessary. Obtains diagnostic recordings or images following established procedures. Recognizes abnormal pathology or results which may require additional or modified testing or imaging for optimal evaluation. Recognizes serious abnormalities which might require immediate reporting to the requesting physician. Maintains equipment and supplies following established procedure. Assists in providing training to employees being trained or students observing procedures.
Performs advanced echocardiographic techniques or procedures which include the following: Performs stress echocardiography including stress monitoring, obtaining pre and post exercise images and process in digital images for physician review. Performs echocardiography utilizing pharmacologic stress protocols including recording images at prescribed stages, patient monitoring and processing digital images for physician review. Performs echocardiography utilizing contrast or enhancing agents for improving difficult images in conjunction with other modalities. Arranges for nursing administration of agents and necessary medical supervisor, adjusts echocardiograph and records optimal images for review. Performs transesophageal echo including assisting with scheduling/arrangements, preparing appropriate equipment, assisting with patient preparation and monitoring and assisting physician in recording images and adjusting equipment. Performs vascular ultrasound to include Carotid ultrasound, Arterial duplex and PVR, Renal, Abdominal Aorta, Venous Insufficiency, and TCD.
Reviews the patient record for test indication and obtains clinical information pertinent to the test: Reviews patient record and verifies correct order before initiating test. Reviews patient record to obtain information relevant to testing which may include, but not limited to relevant diagnosis, history and physical, patient height, EKG and other lab data. Performs the appropriate assessment using patient interview, auscultation, palpation and documents appropriate data. Refers any questions regarding appropriateness of therapy or testing to Clinical Manager, Cardiovascular Services or the requesting physician. Completes documentation of testing resulting in proper charging and recording of test. 
Must be available to meet on-call requirements.

What You Will Bring:

Education

Graduate of two (2) year Allied Health Training Program (including but not limited Registered Nursing or Diagnostic Medical Sonography) or equivalent working experience.

Experience
Requires a minimum of 2 years experience.

Certification & Licensures
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required *
Requires registry as both a Cardiac and Vascular sonographer. Candidate may currently possess one of these credentials, but must obtain the second within one year of employment with VH. Cardiac registry by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) (Adult); or by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS). Vascular registry by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT); or by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS).
* New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.

Qualifications
Requires participation in call rotation and call back testing. Possesses communication skills necessary to relate to physicians, peers and patients on a professional and technical level. Possesses management skills necessary to organize daily workflow and make staffing assignment for the Cardiovascular Lab. Possesses skills necessary to serve as preceptor for new employees/trainees and clinical resource. Must have the physical and mental and technical skills necessary to perform diagnostic testing of all ages, neonatal through adult as required.
