What You Will Do:

The Vice President is a member of the executive team of the western region of VHS who not only manages a portion of the organization, but also provides a key role in relating hospital functions, Patient Safety, Quality of Care improvement, Physician engagement, documentation accuracy and improvement and partner to identify and build consensus and implement efficiencies in clinical care.

VPMA also advises the region’s President and is responsible for decisions and policies to the medical staffs as well as relating medical staff opinions, attitudes, preferences and needs to the hospital management and governing body.

Serves as the medical staff administrative liaison to the region’s President. The VPMA will manage and advance the clinical practice performance of the medical staff. The Vice President, Medical Affairs serves as a resource to the medical staff in credentialing, reappointment, peer review and quality review, but does not usurp the responsibilities of the organized medical staff in this regard. Additionally, the VPMA assists in development and promotes acceptance of service standards for the medical staff and the entire organization, works with medical staff to ensure that the established service standards are met or exceeded, monitors patient/customer satisfaction and uses data to improve systems, processes and outcomes and helps to investigate and resolve major patient complaints or problems associated with the medical staff.

Serves as the western region liaison with the Performance Improvement Department on matters related to the Quality Improvement Organization and other third party payers on matters relating to physician performance.

Collaborates with the western region VPs of Nursing to drive inter-professional patient care. Participates in the establishment, review and revisions of policies, procedures and standards of care related to patient care procedures and outcomes as necessary.

The western region Vice President of Medical Affairs is a member of the system chief physician executive team at Valley Health and will have system responsibilities. This position provides key roles in relation to system functions such as system quality improvement and high reliability, care standardization and variation management, physician leadership development, physician support for care coordination and utilization management, and physician recruitment and alignments.

The position will have dual reporting; primarily to the CPE for system responsibilities and to the WR Presidents for regional responsibilities.

What You Will Bring:

Education

Masters Business or Healthcare Administration, Medical Management or Certified Physician Executive (CPE) preferred.
Graduate from accredited LCME Medical School required

Experience
5 years practice of medicine in the US in private or small group practice preferred

Certification & Licensures
WV License to practice medicine required
AMA or AOA Board Certification In recognized specialty required
Membership in the American College of Physician Executives or American College of Healthcare Executives preferred

Qualifications
Must have demonstrated skill and interest in management concepts and their application to hospitals
Must have demonstrated skill in written and oral communication to medical and lay groups
Quality Assurance background preferred
Innovation and vision in contemporary Performance Improvement preferred
