What You Will Do:

The Medical Group Finance team at Valley Health is offering an exciting opportunity to join an emerging team within the Valley Health Medical Group. This role offers significant opportunity for development and career progression in the quickly expanding field of medical group finance and reporting. The Finance Manager leads a team in the development and delivery of financial, clinical, and business analytical products and recommendations, including providing leadership during the financial planning and budgeting processes. This role will focus on synthesizing financial, clinical, and strategic data into packages to evaluate and develop business plans in current and emerging markets in support of the Vice President of Medical Group Finance and the Chief Operating Officer of the Valley Health Medical Group. The Finance Manager leads the team in building relationships with the operational teams throughout the medical group and ensuring the group serve as trusted business partners. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working leading and mentoring team members to evaluate business models and performance and develop KPIs with a focus on both financial and clinical utilization metrics. Areas of expertise will include revenue cycle operations, provider compensation and utilization, reimbursement and federal programs, medical group funds flow, and financial management. The Finance Manager will help develop subject matter experts in revenue cycle management, benchmarking, provider compensation, capital planning, budgeting, financial analysis, resource utilization, and forecasting. In addition to the medical group team, the role collaborates closely with Revenue Cycle Management, Business Analytics, Business Planning, and the Financial Treasury & Accounting departments, as well as supporting the matrixed relationships with the hospital finance teams. Supports the Vice President of Medical Group Finance and the Chief Operating Officer with the management and execution of key responsibilities within the Medical Group Finance team throughout the financial cycle. Leads finance and operational team members in the design and development of decision support and business intelligence solutions in collaboration with the Business Analytics team. Ensures the timely delivery of information to identified customers across the system, including medical group and hospital leadership, finance, treasury, and operations. Demonstrates the ability to coach, teach, and motivate team members. Able to identify areas of talent and interest in team members and work with the VP of Finance on development plans. Comfortable with difficult conversations and providing timely feedback. Proven track record of building mutually fulfilling work relationships between teams.
Demonstrates ability to identify, explain, and recommend solutions to promote effective utilization of medical group resources in alignment with industry and system recognized benchmarks. Able to explain the purpose and science behind benchmark calculations and coach customers through decision-making exercises to maximize their available resources. Willing and able to advocate for the role of resource utilization metrics with customers and internal team members. Demonstrates an understanding of medical group and hospital operation, functions as a resource and change agent, establishing rapport and working closely with management to build strong customer relationships. Demonstrates a working knowledge of cost and consolidated accounting principles as applied to medical groups, including ability to calculate return on investment (ROI), operating margin, and financial impact for service lines across multiple legal entities. Ensures accurate and consistent day-to-day operation and utilization of decision support systems. Monitors, troubleshoots and corrects malfunctioning processes and adapts reporting environments for organizational and environmental changes. Develops processes to support creation of documentation for complex processes and reporting requirements required by the medical group, including leading the development of annual surveys and reports using medical group data to affiliation groups such as Sullivan Cotter LCG, MGMA, AMGA, etc. Demonstrates ability to understand complex data structures and develop user-friendly, actionable reports for multiple levels of corporate stakeholders, from frontline to executive. Experienced in providing analytical insights for operational and finance customers in simple language, focusing on opportunities to improve financial performance of the organization. Demonstrates the ability to identify drivers of financial and operational performance on a monthly basis to inform the performance of the medical group, as well as understanding and reporting on the hospital and total system impact of the medical group. Able to develop and interpret financial parameters, performance to goals, pro formas, and track performance of projects on a long-term basis.

What You Will Bring:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Health Administration, Finance or Accounting, or Informatics and five years’ work experience in healthcare finance and/or revenue cycle, OR Masters’ Degree in Business, Health Administration, Finance, or Accounting and three years’ work experience.

Experience
Finance experience required
Experience working in healthcare, particularly with physician practices, revenue cycle, financial analytics, or health systems preferred.

Qualifications
High level of engagement and knowledge of clinical operations to effectively support the medical group; medical group experience is preferred
Strong interpersonal skills and comfort with tight deadlines and creative problem solving.
Excellent ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-finance team members with a customer service focus. Candidates must demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills, as well as possess strong oral and written presentation skills.
Successful candidates will be proactive and motivated to learn independently as well as collaborate with groups. Experience developing and analyzing actionable reports within different platforms (Axiom, Tableau, SQL) is required.
Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required.
