What You Will Do:

VHS seeks a visionary physician executive to serve as its System Medical Informatics Officer (VHS MIO).
The MIO is a critical hire for the health system and will partner closely with the Quality Officer, Population Health Officer, and Chief Information Officer (CIO) and other executives to lead informatics throughout health system. The MIO is both a strategic and tactical leader in the health system. MIO is essential in developing and communicating ongoing informatics initiatives to engage, educate and develop clinicians around the Epic EMR and continual use of technology to improve patient care, quality and costs. The MIO engages the clinical community in optimizing workflows across the health system. The MIO has operational responsibility managing a team and budget. In conjunction with the CIO, Chief Physician Executive and other stakeholders, the VHS MIO helps to formulate effective governance to identify system priorities for the enhanced use of clinical information systems and reporting/analysis tools. To that end, the VHS MIO is expected to serve as the health system’s primary subject matter expert in the definition of clinical requirements for information systems design, implementation and adoption for key stakeholder groups. The VHS MIO consistently promotes an environment of engagement between physicians, staff, hospital executive teams and leadership.
The VHS MIO will assess, develop and implement an informatics' strategy for the system that will advance the system Mission and Vision and support the strategic plan. The VHS MIO will lead the physician adoption, utilization and optimization of Epic clinical information systems. In addition he/she will assure the implementation of efficient new workflows enabled by technology and use techniques such as Lean Process Improvement.
The VHS-MIO is a member of the IT Leadership Team in addition to the Senior Physician Leadership group and interacts regularly with peer physician leaders throughout the health system.
The VHS MIO is a practicing physician with a minimum of a third of their time is spent in patient care.

Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the CPE, CIO, VHS Quality and Patient Safety Officer, VHS Population Health Officer, Hospital VPMAs, Medical Staff officers and other stakeholders on the continued optimization and development of the Epic EMR and clinical information systems - Perform clinical work 30 percent of the time in the areas of general surgery, primary care or other general practice - Partner with the CIO and other IT leaders in the development and execution of the IT strategy - Communicate the informatics strategic vision and act as the liaison between clinicians, IT, the hospitals, ambulatory clinical communities and Executive Management team - Leads providers related to optimization of system usability, collaborates with the clinical effectiveness, population health, and system analytics projects - Develops and implements metrics around provider engagement, adoption, and usability of clinical information systems - Provides provider go-live support to new facilities, clinics and other settings during their adoption of EPIC - Works with quality leadership to ensure clinician EMR utilization is aligned with quality and safety goals throughout the system - Work with population health leadership to ensure the utilization of EMR across the continuum to optimize the value of care we provide - Understanding of physician needs and builds relationships with physician staff to assure widespread acceptance, adoption and meaningful use of clinical information systems. - Develops Physician Champions throughout the organization to lead in all major clinical IT projects including the EMR implementations - Understands and communicates latest trends in healthcare, clinical systems, information systems, information technology and point of care products. Works with system clinical information teams and Epic clinical teams on translating these trends into designing, building and implementing enhancements to the EMR - Maintains awareness of existing and emerging technology, regulatory, and market factors and assists in the development of the IT strategy and plan - Champions clinical systems innovations to the public, explaining and promoting their benefits

What You Will Bring:

Education

(Doctorate, M.D., etc) Medical Degree from an accredited institution with board certification in his/her chosen specialty area
Advanced medical informatics training through a fellowship or master's program desirable

Experience
Leadership experience within a physician-driven environment
Experience with EPIC systems highly desirable
5-10 years' experience in clinical systems and process re-design
5 years of patient care experience

Certification & Licensures
Board certification by specialty board under the ABMS (American Board of Medical Specialties)
