Description

The VP Retail Operations will be a key contributor to the development and leadership of the growth strategy for the Retail Division of Vail Resorts, including role of store locations, expansion and integration.  This person will also have direct accountability for operations, revenue and EBITDA results for retail stores in Colorado Front Range, Tahoe resort stores, San Francisco city stores and MidWest. This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer of Specialty Sports Ventures, the Retail Division of Vail Resorts (VR), and is located in Vail Resorts headquarters in Broomfield, CO.

• Help develop and lead the growth strategy for the Retail Division of Vail Resorts, including role of resort vs. city stores, investment for expansion, integration with Vail Resorts guests.
• Leads enterprise-wide operations to ensure overall company operational effectiveness.  Directs the overall operations of SSV working directly with all corporate department.
  • Partners with the VP Finance to set budgets, maintain regional and store P&Ls, oversee financial performance, and manage controllable expenditures
  • Partners with the Director, Marketing to drive marketing strategies within regions
  • Partners with the Director, Human Resources to development and implementation operational policies, employee programs/initiatives
  • Partners with the Director, Loss prevention, Heath & Safety and Risk Management to implement and monitor risk related initiatives
  • Partners with the VR legal department to oversees existing leases and maintains relationships with landlords, and development of new leases
  • Partners with the VP GMM to ensures the proper assortment of merchandise is maintained in the stores
• Leads operations of the retail/rental stores of the VR Tahoe CA resorts (Heavenly, Northstar, Kirkwood); the city shops located in the San Francisco Bay Area (Any Mountain), the Colorado Front Range (Denver metro  - CSG/BV/ Boulder - BSD / Colorado Springs), and Midwest (Hoigaard’s, Outdoor Outlet).
• Evaluates business trends in the retail and rental businesses and making recommendations for change as appropriate

Responsible for maximizing the return on investment, profit and loss, daily operations, planning and development for short and long-term sales growth.
 

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred
• Proven track record of ownership of business results and taking action o address when needed
• Experience developing growth strategy
• 10-15 years retail corporate and field/retail operations experience required; senior level regional operations experience required
• Experience in specialty retail experience required
• Experience in retail merchandising (worked as buyer and/or worked closely with buying/merchandising function)
• Experience in resort/hospitality industry preferred
• Leadership experience at executive level
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Must be able to travel regularly through the region.  Approximately 50% travel requirement
• Business ownership – driving result and taking action
• Passion for retail environment in the recreational/resort industry; high end customer service experience; and, the skill set to communicate effectively to all levels
• Business analytical skills
