Manager: Race & Competition Services - Full Time - 10 Month - Heavenly

 

Job Summary: Heavenly Mountain Resort is looking for a Manager to oversee the Race and Competition Services Department.

 

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Oversee the daily operations for EPIC Mix Race
    • Hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating staff
    • Delegate and oversee the daily set up and tear down of the EPIC Mix Race Course
    • Insure the safe set up of the Race Course meeting all required regulations and guidelines including trail closures, fencing, and gates
    • Understand the RPOS and Epic Mix Racing products and be responsible for receipts and daily reports
    • Develop and manage the Epic Mix Racing annual budget
  • Oversee the operations of scheduled race events (both day and night) including USASA, Far West, High School, Heavenly Ski Foundation, and others
    • Responsible for insuring all required certifications, regulations, and codes are upheld related to Race facilities, Courses, and Certification of Employees
    • Working knowledge of FIS, USSA, USASA, etc rules and regulations and course setting Slalom, GS, Duals,
    • Responsible for daily upkeep of associated facilities and courses
    • Work with local clubs and race organizations, maintaining strong professional relationships including Heavenly Ski Foundation and assist with training, scheduling, and races
    • Manage the Race Calendar coordinating all races, trainings, course builds, and set up pertaining to trainings, races, and special events.
    • Ability to oversee Timing, Results, and Calculations for all races.
  • Special Events and Signature Races
    • Operational Lead for events such a USSA Championship, Far West Competition, Gunbarrel 25, High Roller Hold’em, etc.
    • Responsible for working with officials and teams to produce nationally televised events. Designated as the Heavenly contact person for third party vendors and promoters. Coordinate and manage operations on site during the events.
    • Responsible for hiring TD, Jury, and other race officials. Collection and accountability for race fees and other associated money
    • Responsible for insuring all required certifications, regulations, and codes are upheld related to Race facilities, Courses, and Certification of Employees for all major events.
    • Working knowledge of FIS, USSA, USASA, etc rules and regulations
    • Responsible for hiring, scheduling, and payroll for employees, including third party Judges, Event Staff, etc.

 

Qualifications

  • Must have a Valid Drivers License
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work outside in varying weather conditions
  • USSA member preferred Level 200 Certifications
  • Advanced knowledge of race timing hardware and software. Able to set up, operate and trouble shoot timing systems.

 

Required Experience:

  • Race Crew experience
  • Experience in Ski Resort Operations
  • Experience supervising and managing a work group of 10 or more employees
  • Course setting, timing, and race coaching. Course set up, finish line radius and protection, snow surface maintenance, and course safety (including B-netting use and other safety equipment)

 

Skills

  • Must be a strong team player. Able to work with other departments (Marketing, Building Maintenance, Grooming, Snowmaking, etc) to coordinate and plan for events and larger races. Comfortable and competent coordinating the combined efforts of other departments for a successful end product.
  • English language: Strong written and verbal – able to read Operations and Maintenance manuals in English and develop log books
  • Understanding and proficiency on Microsoft Office programs
  • Communication skills – able to provide and receive direction. Be able to stay Out Front of industry standards and share with Management any changes or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Self motivated with an eye for detail in the work area
  • Must have strong leadership skills and have the ability to make decisions affecting operations related to safety guidelines with confidence
  • Advanced Skier / Rider

 

Work Schedule Requirements (including but not limited to)

  • Will be required to work extended hours outside in an alpine mountain environment with variable weather conditions including snow, wind, cold, and sun.
  • Able to work weekends and holidays
  • Able to work days and evenings during trainings, events, and races.
  •  8 to 10 hour shifts common based on event schedules
  • This is a 10-month position; meaning, incumbent would have two months of unpaid time off throughout the year. Benefit coverage (including medical, dental, vision and supplemental coverage) would remain year- round.
