Job Summary: The Senior Manager, Marketing is a key management position within the Heavenly and Kirkwood marketing departments responsible for overseeing national, regional and local advertising and promotions, as well as all merchandising/upsell, print/collateral design/production and resort photography.  This individual represents marketing as a member of the Kirkwood Senior Management Team. The position incorporates a critical set of strategic and tactical responsibilities that cover a wide range of advertising planning, creative, and execution oversight, including multiple promotional executions.  In addition, this position oversees both Heavenly and Kirkwood summer advertising programs.

 

Job Responsibilities:

      RESORT POSITIONING

  • Work directly with the Senior Director of Marketing, external and/or internal advertising personnel, and other resort and/or corporate marketing management team members in the development and delivery of both Heavenly and Kirkwood brand messaging
  • Work directly with the Senior Director of Marketing to insure both resort brands are consistently conveyed in all resort related communications 
  • Oversee all media-related promotional opportunities to insure maximum leverage and cross-channel consistency with the resort’s brand and positioning
  • Work with Vail Resorts corporate marketing teams to insure consistency in positioning both resorts across all Vail Resorts programs

 

      ADVERTISING PLANNING/EXECUTION

  • Work with the Senior Director of Marketing and any applicable internal and/or external agencies in developing resort’s regional advertising plan, including analysis, strategic planning, media planning, media placement, project management, creative development and execution. 
  • Oversee all media related services, including planning, negotiation, placement, trafficking, compliance, and promotional programs.
  • Oversee ad agency in all aspects of creative production, including concept development, production and delivery.
  • Track advertising effectiveness. 
  • Work with both Heavenly and Kirkwood reservations groups and Online Marketing Manager to develop accurate tracking systems for all media, including broadcast, print, outdoor, direct mail, and promotions (where appropriate).
  • Traffic advertising materials internally to secure input and approval as needed.

 

      MERCHANDISING/UPSELL

  • Develop and execute a complete on-site product/service merchandising program designed to increase sales of ski school, food & beverage and retail/rental products, as well as the exposure of Corporate programs such as season pass sales, Peaks promotions, EpicMix, etc. and resort events
  • Work with profit center management teams at both resorts to develop effective site-specific marketing programs.

 

      SUMMER MARKETING/ADVERTISING

  • Develop  and execute comprehensive strategic marketing plan for both Heavenly and Kirkwood summer activities including: sightseeing, F&B, summer activities and special events and Kirkwood summer programs
  • Coordinate all advertising for summer activities.
  • Oversee all promotions for summer activities in coordination with the communications managers and Sales Director for both resorts

 

      COLLATERAL/BROCHURE PRODUCTION

  • Work with Senior Director of Marketing, other marketing managers, and the advertising agency in developing and communicating strategic direction for all resort collateral brochure executions including the annual resort trail map. 
  • Responsible for brand compliance and resort positioning in all printed marketing materials.

 

      BUDGET MANAGEMENT

  • Responsible for the development of an annual advertising, merchandising and collateral budget.
  • Responsible for on-going management of those budgets to insure accurate reporting of budget allocation and budget analysis for monthly and quarterly accounting reports.
  • Responsible for implementation of accounting controls on advertising, merchandising and collateral
  • Oversee vendor-invoicing process to insure consistent and accurate billing system.
  • Responsible for adhering to established VRI accounting policies and procedures as it pertains to opening purchase orders, placing orders, receiving orders and reconciling billing discrepancies.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Communications or Advertising a minimum of six years specific related experience in advertising and/or marketing.
  • Both agency-side experience and client-side experience is preferred. 
  • Resort or hospitality experience is preferred.
  • Computer and audio/visual knowledge including MS Office and Powerpoint.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail and fiscally minded.
