The Shipping Manager position is a high profile, high impact position based at the Urban Remedy Distribution Center in Richmond, CA.  The Shipping Manager will be responsible for leading all aspects of the day to day pack out process managing a team of 25 plus across two shifts supporting key accounts including, Whole Foods, Urban Remedy Retail, Safeway, Raleys as well as Urban Remedy’s wholesale and direct to consumer channels. This is a key position in a fast-growing company and requires a candidate comfortable creating robust processes, developing team capacity and able to facilitate cross departmental communication and collaboration.  Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Order Management
    • Oversee all shipping pack-out operations across 2 shifts.
    • Co-ordinate all pack-out processes ensuring timeliness and accuracy
    • Manages ERP ordering system for daily Customer and Distribution orders.
    • Ensure accurate recording and retention of all shipping documentation.
    • Collate data and manage reporting on KPI’s including overtime, absenteeism, picking accuracy, labor efficiency, etc. to help identify and validate improvement opportunities.
    • Manage inventory FEFO accuracy.
    • Minimize OOS situations ensuring effective communication for low and out-of-stock items and internal and external fulfillment delays.
    • Manage workplace safety and the wellbeing of all shipping operators.
    • Ensure all inventory cycle counts in Shipping are 100% accurate and are completed on time.
    • Train and hold teams accountable for all Shipping Department Sanitation tasks
    • Communicate effectively between the 2 shifts ensuring all information is accurate and up to date.
    • Develops and initiates continuous process improvement.
    • Co-ordinates distribution of orders through the Transportation Supervisor
  • Shipping Training and Supervision
    • Provides coaching for productivity and development to ensure team members and their respective Supervisors are successful.
    • Ensures shipping operators are informed of any order changes / special orders to ensure timely completion of daily pack-out for all customers.
    • Assist in the training of new personnel to the shipping department.
    • Serves as a secondary back-up supervisor when shift supervisor is absent.
  • Equipment, Safety and Facilities
    • Supports preventive maintenance on all related equipment (i.e., carts, lifting equipment).
    • Maintains list of equipment and supplies for packaging, dating etc.
    • Participates in Monthly Safety Committee and leads safety training for Packout Team.
    • Conducts Near Miss and accident investigations per the Site IPP (Injury Prevention Program)
  • Communication Duties
    • Serves as the liaison between the pack out, production and retail/wholesale teams for issues related to pack-out and delivery of food.
    • Establishes a culture of respect, hard work, consistency and effective communication between the Supervisors, operators and the rest of the company.
    • Conducts daily meetings with supervisors to review performance and support daily operation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work well with others and participate as part of a team.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • An understanding of personal GMPs and will execute as trained.
  • Aware of GMPs requirements and responsible for assuring that direct reports are aware and will execute as trained.
  • As a member of various food safety teams, will execute duties as required.


Position-Specific Skills Required

The ideal candidate:

  • 2+ years distribution center, logistics, or warehouse experience required including at least 3+ years management experience in a complex DC environment.
  • Experience with ERP and Payroll Management systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work well with others and participate as part of a team.
  • Experience coaching and develop team members; administer corrective action when appropriate.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be exposed to extreme heat, moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, electrical shock, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, all weather conditions, vibrations and loud noise.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, but not excessive (ear protection is available, but not required by OSHA).
