We are searching for a disciplined Principal Data Engineer/Data Architect who is passionate about building a new foundation for the clean energy software ecosystem. You’ll work within our Build and Enable group in an exciting opportunity to support the development of the framework on which a multitude of utilities and 3rd party providers will build products that touch the majority of homes and businesses in North America. This is a high-visibility role as interacting with both Exec and members of staff from across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Bring knowledge of best practices, experience, and what works in what situation to an entire data-driven organization.
  • Work closely with engineers across the organization to guide their development process.
  • Encourage sound development practices and ensure the quality delivery of enterprise solutions.
  • Challenge others to think in larger and more mature ways.
  • Help define the layers and components of an Enterprise Data Architecture.
  • Design Data Integration, Data Warehousing, Analytics, Reporting & Data Science strategies.
  • Design data governance frameworks by outlining the aims and objectives for Data Security, Data Quality, Data Cataloging, Metadata Management, Master Data Management etc.
  • Lead proof of concepts and development of evaluation matrix through final recommendation, including hands-on execution where needed.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to team leads and help establish consistent adoption of technical design across all initiatives in our portfolio.
  • Analyze cross-functional business processes, identify solutions, assess the feasibility, and provide recommendations.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for automation and reduction of technical debt.
  • Contribute to solution scoping and effort sizing with cross-functional teams.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies as it relates to Data and provide architectural recommendations based on business requirements and strategies for the enterprise.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience overseeing the development and/or project team members.
  • Detail-oriented individual with the ability to rapidly learn and take advantage of new concepts, business models, and technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
  • Cutting edge innovator who continually studies new technologies and functionality, and is involved in projects that push the capabilities of existing technologies.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to effectively develop materials that are appropriate for the audience.
  • Strong presentation skills. Able to effectively present and defend a point of view to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience delivering solutions that support both batch and real-time data products & platforms using best in class technologies in public cloud infrastructures including AWS/Azure/GCP.
  • Designing data pipelines, including data visualization (e.g., BigQuery), batch and streaming data (e.g., Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Dataproc, Apache Beam, Apache Spark and Hadoop ecosystem, Cloud Pub/Sub, Apache Kafka), interactive vs. batch predictions, and job automation and orchestration (e.g., Cloud Composer)
  • Designing data processing solutions, including consideration of system availability and fault tolerance, using distributed systems, capacity planning.
  • Experience architecting and implementing Data Lake solutions in service to evolving business needs.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Deployment (CD) & Continuous Training (CT) concepts.
  • Experience with Agile, DevSecOps, DataOps, MLOps delivery practices, and methodologies.

Salary Range: $100,000 to $135,000 (dependent on experience)
