Senior People Business Partner
Description
Uplight is creating a new category of energy. We make software that manages energy resources in homes and businesses—including things like smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps, and even people’s behavior—to generate, shift, or save energy to balance the grid, making it more efficient and reliable. This creates clean energy capacity that can be used by the power grid instead of burning more fossil fuels. Our solutions accelerate the transition to clean energy and save money for energy customers.
We are looking for a Senior People Business Partner to drive our company forward, and help us lead the clean energy revolution!
How You'll Make an Impact:
- Drive Business Outcomes: Deeply understand your assigned business units (their operational goals, financial drivers, and challenges) and build tailored people strategies that directly advance those objectives.
- Guide Growth and Change: Lead org design, cultural initiatives, and change management so teams stay resilient, aligned, and well-supported through scale.
- Turn Insights into Action: Use HR metrics and employee feedback to identify real friction points, partnering with leaders and the People Team to deploy practical solutions.
- Own Core Programs: Oversee end-to-end execution for workforce planning, compensation, succession, and performance management across your groups.
- Navigate Tough Situations with Care: Serve as a trusted advisor on complex employee issues and continuously improve our playbook to mitigate risk and protect our culture.
- Collaborate Seamlessly: Partner closely with Talent Acquisition, People Operations, and internal stakeholders to keep everyone on the same page your business units.
- Where You’ll Work: Boulder, Colorado (Hybrid). Uplight is a global team, but this role is anchored at our Boulder HQ, with local folks coming into the office 1–2 days a week.
What You Bring to Uplight:
- Track Record: 5+ years as a People Business Partner in high-growth tech environments, including direct experience advising at every level of leadership in the business.
- Distributed Team Savvy: Experience supporting remote or global teams (familiarity with supporting teams in India is a strong plus).
- Core HR Expertise: Broad foundation across compensation practices, org design, employee relations, and employment laws.
- Pragmatic Problem-Solving: Ability to translate complex policies and legal requirements into clear, sensible business practices. Balancing process but seeing situations through a human lens.
- Communication & Facilitation: Exceptional facilitation skills and the ability to navigate sensitive conversations, build consensus, and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Execution: The usual: you need to be organized and pay attention to the right details. This is a job where finish lines aren’t always clear and there will always be more to do, so juggling priorities so you’re focused on the most important things is key.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women, marginalized genders and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Uplight we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
