Uplight is creating a new category of energy. We build software that manages energy resources in homes and businesses—including things like smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps, and even people’s behavior—to generate, shift, or save energy to balance the grid, making it more efficient and reliable. This creates clean energy capacity that can be used by the power grid instead of burning more fossil fuels. We are looking for a Program Manager III to drive our company forward, and help us lead the clean energy revolution!
As a Program Manager III on the Professional Services team, you will be responsible for planning the projects within your program and managing the execution of those projects. This work includes supporting the development of project delivery plans/scenarios, monitoring and reporting on the program’s status, tracking dependencies, and supporting the facilitation of tradeoffs and prioritization conversations with cross-functional teams. You will also directly project manage the delivery of selected projects within your program. In this role, you will work with a team of project managers who are responsible for managing our Professional Services projects. You will be accountable for achieving target results across your program’s scope.To be successful, you’ll need to collaborate with external stakeholders and Uplight Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations, and Account Management teams. The right candidate must be adept and effective at cross-functional communication and coordination. You will need to be comfortable operating at both the strategic level (e.g. process improvement; long-term planning; etc) and at the tactical level (e.g. resolving client issues).
How you will make an impact:
- During the project planning and execution phase, read and understand available project documentation (SoW, RFP, ToC, RTM, Test Plan, Change Orders, Work Orders, RAID Logs, etc.).
- Fosters an environment that supports teamwork to achieve project objectives.
- “Shields” dynamically assigned project teams from outside effects influencing their efficiency.
- Develop and maintain a detailed project plan (including all project artifacts, including, but not limited to, the project schedule).
- Consult TPM and PSPM I and IIs in their daily activities and guide them as a mentor.
- Monitors and reports on progress against the program plan and SoW.
- Manage costs, schedule, and deliverables for the overall program.
- Owns end-to-end cost planning for the project.
- Owns and/or oversees end-to-end scheduling of all projects within the program.
- Owns dependencies among the individual program projects.
- Organizes and leads cost planning monthly events with PSPM I and II, TPMs.
- Maintains detailed monthly cost forecast for the cost to complete the program.
- Actively participates in preparation and execution of monthly project review events.
- Runs risk management and develops mitigation plans.
- Manages and leads project team members for project activities.
- Substitutes for PSPM I and II and TPMs in their OOO absence.
- Help TPMs, and PSPM I and II coordinate project team members’ day-to-day activities with the support of their line managers.
- Run regular program status meetings and generate program status reports.
- Communicate and make project decisions with primarily through client Program Manager counterpart(s), with adequate Subject Matter Expert (SME) stakeholder support.
- Communicate the status and issues (internal and external) on a weekly basis to stakeholders.
- Ensures that all decisions are communicated and understood by the whole project team.
- Escalate project issues when needed to either PSPM IV or Director level.
- Run project Work Order and Change Order process.
- Run project change management process.
- Maintain plan of material costs needed for project execution. (e.g., Travel cost)
- Cooperate with the Project Governance team to report out program statuses, and steer and manage anythe project escalations.
- Sign off with client milestone acceptance forms and/or Work Orders and negotiate acceptance criteria.
- Contributes to team and company lessons learned, organize RCA and feedback sessions for other organizational teams on action plans to ensure future prevention of recurrence.
- Participates in company community of practice and works on process improvements for the team
What you bring to Uplight:
- 5-7 years of experience in project management or a related field
- 3-4 years of experience in IT/Software industry in technical or client project delivery role
- Excellent organizational, communicational, and interpersonal skills
- Strong technical knowledge in Uplight’s field of service
- Strong leadership of multicultural and geographically dispersed teams
- Excellent knowledge of contract, project, risk management, and account management
- Sens for managing expectations and the importance of timely communication.
- Strong compassion for team members and mentorship
- Formal training on Project Management
- PMP, Agile, Scrum Master, and/or Lean Six
Bonus points:
- Be passionate about energy consumption and making a difference in the world
- Prior experience working at a high-growth software company in the energy or utility space
- Prior experience in data pipelines, ETL, and/or analytics
- Formal project management training or certifications

Salary Range: $104,000 to $131,000 USD

The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be determined by a number of factors including the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity among our team.
