The A Side: A Day in The Life

 

Reporting to the SVP of Legal & Business Affairs, Mercury Studios, you will perform your role as a qualified lawyer to support the day to day Legal & Business Affairs needs and requirements of Mercury Studios, a music-based audio-visual production, distribution and sales studio within Universal Music UK based in London.

 

The B Side: Skills & Experience

 

We are looking for a qualified lawyer to join our team as Legal & Business Affairs Manager - Mercury Studios, to provide support on commercial TV and film based contracts and deals in relation to the acquisition, production, distribution and sale of audio-visual content, the skills and requirements will consist of but are not limited to:


  • Acting as a member of the legal & business affairs team
  • Advising on, drafting and negotiating on a broad range of legal and business affairs deals – principally focusing on the production, distribution and sale of audio-visual content, including TV, film and digital
  • Assisting with handling legal and business affairs related issues and collaborating across a variety of internal departments, including finance, development, production, sales and marketing teams
  • Updating relevant internal systems to reflect rights positions and maintaining contracts databases
  • General legal, commercial correspondence and administrative duties
  • Supporting legal intern when required

The job holder will ensure:

 

  • Advice and queries are answered in a correct, professional, efficient and courteous manner
  • Communication is performed appropriately and effectively with all levels within the Company and externally
  • All work is produced to a high standard of accuracy
  • Work is produced within agreed deadlines
  • Problems, issues or requests for information are communicated to the SVP Legal & Business Affairs in a timely manner
  • Department filing is kept up to date
  • Requests for assistance from members of internal teams are greeted with a helpful and flexible approach



Person Specification

 

  • You will be a qualified lawyer with legal and business affairs experience in the TV sector and a have excellent knowledge and experience of drafting development, production, distribution, sales and acquisition related contracts for television programmes and films
  • Bright, outgoing, pro-active individual with keen interest in continuing a career in the television, music and entertainment industry
  • Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate with people at all levels
  • Excellent prioritisation skills and the ability to multitask demands from across the business
  • Accurate drafting skills and great attention to detail
  • Ability to show own initiative
  • Accurate typing skills
  • Good IT skills, especially in Word and Excel
  • Excellent spelling and grammar
  • Proven experience of working under own initiative and as part of a team
  • Proactive approach to work, able to pre-empt problems before they occur
  • Able to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Committed with a flexible, “can-do” attitude
