The A Side: A Day in The Life



UMG’s Global Insight & Consultancy team manages the most powerful and effective data sets and research capabilities for brand partnerships in the music industry. As well as utilising sales, commercial / partner data, and social media analytics, the Global Insight & Consultancy team manages extensive consumer survey data from around the world, delivering unique detail into evolving attitudes and behaviours of today’s music consumers.

This role is based in London and will primarily support UMG’s global New Business teams, reporting directly to the VP, Global Insight & Consultancy and supporting the team to create strategically led, meaningful partnerships between artists and brands. 

The Insight & Consultancy team help create impactful partnerships that utilize data to inform the type of content and activations different music fans want based on the artist and/or brand. We believe insight-based approaches allow us to build deeper, more collaborative and longer-term relationships with brand partners.

This role requires the ability to run bespoke client projects from start to finish. Whilst the Manager will be involved in most aspects of project work, there will be a heavy focus on data analysis and interpreting results across several sources into exciting narratives.

 

The B Side: Skills & Experience

Be Commercial 

 

  • Build deliverables from research (primary & secondary), analytics and insights that inform consumer engagement, content and business development as well as brand strategies
  • Leverage primary and secondary data sources to identify market trends and customer insights - translate these into actionable brand ideas and strategies
  • Responsible for project management of internal research – designing studies, selecting appropriate methodology and packaging the information for client meetings and presentations
  • Develop cross media evaluation case studies to provide proof points for new sectors, platforms and audiences - drive understanding of the value created by UMGB partnership activity

 

Be Collaborative 

 

  • Manage selected external agency relationships, in terms of timelines and project progress to guarantee the delivery of results to the agreed timelines
  • Supporting commercial teams with artist/brand related pitch support for licensing or 3rd party marketing partnerships
  • Leverage insight projects across disciplines to deliver true value back to key stakeholders
  • Supporting the Insight & Consultancy team on a day to day basis
  • Data entry - ensuring databases are accurate and regularly updated
  • Conducting data analysis using different sources (primary research, sales data, social media, advertising, etc)
  • Quantitative research design – survey set-up, questionnaire writing, and material sourcing
  • Develop reports - preparing “skeleton” structure with key charts, then taking ad-hoc requests throughout development

  • Passionate about research and social media listening tools - strong advocate for data who truly believes in its value

  • Strong insight / data analysis experience in media, creative agency, research, etc
  • Experience to include (but not limited to) social media listening tools analysis, survey set-up and design, analysis (e.g. cross tab analysis), chart creation, report writing, presenting experience
  • Comfortable with large data sets
  • Well versed with creating themes and summarizing large open-ended survey responses
  • Ability to bring data to life in an intelligent and compelling way

  • Comfortable in giving recommendations based on multiple sources; survey, social listening, internal knowledge, partner data, industry factors, and instinct

  • Qualitative research experience a plus
  • Scripting, basic video editing a plus
