Mix of 8-12 hour day-eve-night shifts with weekend and holiday requirements

Position Summary:

Reporting to the assigned supervisor and under general direction Respiratory Therapist II, the Respiratory Therapist I administers various forms of respiratory therapy in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Respiratory Care Department.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Performs a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Administers oxygen and air–oxygen mixtures using various equipment.
  • Administers high–humidity aerosols and gas mixtures using pneumatic and electronic nebulizers.
  • Instructs patients in the use of incentive spirometers. Obtains arterial blood samples for blood gas analysis. Administers aerosolized medications and airway clearance therapiesMay induce sputums per department policy.
  • Administers emergency respiratory care (i. e. , CPR, ventilation with resuscitators and masks).

Position Qualifications:



Verification of education and competency upon completion of one year of an Associate of Science in Respiratory Care program. Currently holds a Limited Permit in Respiratory Care by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Professional Licensure. Current BLS certification.



Minimum requirements include knowledge of respiratory care procedures.
